Chapter 3

___

I started walking to homeroom when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see Austin.

"Hey, um, so I guess you're new here?" He said hesitantly.

"Yeah..." I replied, turning to walk away.

I knew Austin had the charm and the looks to get any girl. But that's not going to work on me. Truth is, I definitely still had a huge crush on him.

I was stopped in my tracks when Austin ran in from of me, blocking my path. "So, what's your name?" He asked.

Instead of answering, I kept a small grin on my lips and walked off, leaving him dumbfounded. I scurried down the hall, feeling all eyes still on me. The attention made me feel uncomfortable, but I was starting to get used to it. Moving towards my homeroom, the bell rang as if on cue. Everyone started filing in and sat down. I noticed Austin walk in and a few seconds later... Riley and Madison. They looked exactly as they did in middle school, except a little more mature looking but still as stunning. I went up to the teacher, Mr. O'Neill, and he gave me a welcoming smile, knowing I was new.

"Hello, you must be our new student." Mr. O'Neill said nicely. When everyone sat down and was quiet, he stood up and said," Students, this is your new classmate, Alyssa Madden.".  Everyone's jaws dropped and they were all left speechless, oddly. "Why don't you go take that empty seat next to Mr. Mahone." Mr. O'Neill stated. I walked over to the empty desk next to Austin and sat down, everyone's attention still on me.

"Alyssa." I heard Austin mumble to himself. I turned around to face him with a slight smirk.

"That's my name, don't wear it out." I said innocently.

"Oh, um..." Austin gaped.

"Need something?" I asked in the most clueless voice I could.

"N-no..." He pretended to look at the surface of his desk, tracing circles with his index finger on the wood.

Madison came up to me a few seconds later.

"Hi Alyssa!" She exclaimed, giving me a hug that was really uncomfortable.

"Hi Madison..." I said awkwardly.

"What's up? It's so good to see you!" She said as if she was truly curious.

"I'm fine." I said casually.

My eyes hurt from staring at a bright screen for so long.
