Alyssa's POV

I woke up to the sound of running water. I guess Madison's in the shower.

I slowly sat up and ran my fingers through my hair. Ugh I looked like a mess in the mornings.

I took a shower after Madison got out and changed into shorts and a crop top.

"What are we going to do today?" I asked Madison.

"I don't know, let's ask the guys." Madison jumped up. She walked over to the guys' room and came back two minutes later.

"Alex said that there's a mall near here where we can go shopping!" She said happily.

We walked to the mall since it wasn't that far from here. Madison and I went for the huge Forever 21 store while the guys went to Zumiez to get a skateboard or something.

I was looking through a rack of tie front shirts when I heard someone singing. It started getting louder... And louder.

"Do you hear that?" I walked over to Madison.

"Yeah... I think it's coming from there!" She pointed towards a store across the mall. She was right. I saw a small stage and a sign that read:

Open Mic! Winner gets $1,000!

"You should go up and sing!" Madison nudged me while we walked out of Forever 21 with our bags. Yeah, I sing. Did I tell you? I started singing when I was in fifth grade when I got the lead part in a musical at school. Everyone said I had an amazing voice and that I should sing more. I did, actually.

But when Austin started bullying me with his friends, I thought singing would just be another thing they could make fun of so I stopped. Now, I'm starting to get back to singing but I never really sing in front of anyone. Sometimes I just hum to myself at the dinner table while listening to music or I'll start tapping my pencil to a song stuck in my head at school.

Well, what can I say? Music is in me.

"Hmm... I don't know." I said unsure.

"C'mon! Look, I'll ask the guys." Madison said, picking up her pace towards the guys.

Madison's POV

"Hey guys, don't you think Alyssa should go up for open mic? Winner gets $1,000!" I said excitedly.

"Definately!" Robert smiled. I couldn't help but blush. I've had a huge crush on him since we started hanging out again after Alyssa came back.

"You should, Alyssa!" Alex and Austin said together.

"Fine. But what should I sing?" She replied.

"Yayy! What about... Marilyn Monroe?" I squealed, jumping up and down in excitement. Ok, maybe not really jumping but I was excited.

Alyssa's POV

"What about... Marilyn Monroe?" Madison suggested. Perfect. That was my favorite song and I knew every lyric.

It was my turn to go up and I was utterly nervous. I walked to the center of the stage and turned to see the crowd had grown five times. I looked up at the second floor and there were dozens of people watching. My hands were shaking but I kept my act together. The music started playing. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, like I always do before I sing.

"I can be selfish 

Yet so impatient 

Sometimes I feel, like Marilyn Monroe... 

I'm insecure 

Yeah I make mistakes 

Sometimes I feel like, I'm at the end of the road." I sang proudly till the end and the crowd went wild. I let out a relieved sigh that I didn't know I was holding in.

I walked off stage and saw Austin smiling. Madison ran up to me and attacked me in a hug and Robert and Alex congratulated me.

"Now we'll bring out the singers and you guys will vote who wins. The singer with the loudest cheer wins!" The announcer said. I walked onto stage with five other people.

"Give it up for," the announcer lean over to me and asked for my name.

"Alyssa Madden." I whispered.

"Alyssa Madden everyone!" The crowd went wild. Louder than when I finished singing.

We got through and everyone and the announcer came to a conclusion.

"You guys ready to hear your winner?" He shouted. The crowd screamed and there was a drum roll. "Congratulations... Alyssa!" He said, signaling towards me. I was shocked. Did this really happen?

I stood there, stunned, until the announcer waved his hand in front of me.

"Hello?" He said laughing. He handed me an envelope and I took it. This must be the $1,000. I walked off stage and found the crew. They all gave me equally bone crushing hugs that I was still trying to recover from.

Just as I walked out of the mall, someone ran up to me and stopped me in my tracks.

How did you like it? Bad, I know, it's okay. This is my first story on Wattpad and I pinky swear my paragraphing/writing will and has gotten better.
