Song Of The Chapter

Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips

___

Austin's POV

Does this person really expect me to show up tonight?

I crumpled the note and tossed it in the trash can, not even caring whether I made it in or not.

My phone suddenly burst with life as notifications from Twitter, Instagram, and every other social media site popped up on my lock screen. I noticed multiples texts from people I barely even talked to at school.

What's happening?

Constant chimes and vibrations came from my phone, filling my lock screen with many notifications. When all the alerts slowed down, I opened a tweet from a fan.

' @bieberrmahonee143: Austin slapped Alyssa?! and I thought he would never hurt a fly. '

I blinked a few times to make sure I was reading this right.

How did they find out?

I decided to go over to Alex's house and find out the details. As I reached the front porch, I noticed the curtain was open and you could clearly seethe people inside. I saw Alex, but there was another girl. She had her back facing me so I could figure out who it was.

They seemed to be having a conversation.

Then, out of nowhere, Alex grabbed the girl's face and kissed her.

That's not very like Alex.

When the girl looked to the side, I caught a glimpse of her profile and immediately, I knew who it was.

What the hell is Alex doing here with Alyssa?

Anger began to build inside of me for no known reason and I stomped down the porch steps. Maybe I'll go to Robert's house.

As I trudged up to Robert's front door, I knocked loudly, not even caring if I bothered anyone.

"Hey, what's up?" Robert greeted at the door wearing only a plain white T-shirt and his Spongebob boxers.

"Uh..." Was all I could get out while I pointed to his bottom half because I was still confused as to why he had no pants on.

"Oh, right. Give me one second." Robert chuckled nervously, as if he didn't know he was only wearing boxers.

While Robert went to dress himself, I stepped into his house, since the front door was left open. Making myself at home, like I usually did, I sat on the couch in the living room, waiting for Robert to return.

"What do you need?" Robert's awkward voice said from behind me, soon joining me on the couch.

"Well, I got a note in my locker today..." I started, "it said to meet at the park at 7:00 sharp or else." I scoffed.

"Who was it? Are you going to go?" Robert asked.

"I don't know." I shrugged, running my fingers through my hair.

Both of us were quiet for the next few minutes, the sound of the clock ticking on the wall being the only noise filling the room.

"I'll go with you." Robert spoke.

"You don't have to, I don't even know if-"

"I saw Mandy Patterson put that note in your locker during passing period." Robert interrupted.

But why would she want to meet you at the park? She barely has the guts to even make eye contact with me.

I thought about it.

Maybe she's not going to cause harm to me or anything, probably just to hang out or something. But you would usually say 'or else' when you ask someone to hang out. That's just weird.

"7:00?" Robert asked.

"7:00."

___

Here I am, finding myself walking down the empty sidewalk at 6:57 PM, with Robert by my side, blowing air into his hands that were cupped over his mouth to keep him warm.

"Are you sure?" I asked for the hundredth time.

"Austin, no one is going to stab you to death in the park." Robert rolled his eyes, giving me a light punch on my arm.

"You can never be so sure." I mumbled to myself.

Reaching the large grass area, I recognized that the park was nearby.

The dim street lights didn't help all that much with seeing well. The stars seemed to even be brighter than the lamp posts on the corner of each block, though.

At the park, there was a basketball court which always had bright lights lit so anyone who wanted to have a game of 21 at 11:00 at night could see.

I noticed a figured standing on the court, wearing a black hoodie and blue skinny jeans. It must be a girl because no man's legs are that skinny, that I know of. She had her hands in her hoodie pockets, as it was surprisingly cold tonight.

The closer I walked to the brightly lit court, the more intimidated I got of the girl waiting there.

Is she the one who gave me the note?

She must've heard our footsteps on the cement because she turned around once we stepped onto the court.

I could not identify who she was since she had a hood on and that pretty much cast a shadow over her face.

"Glad you could make it, and with Robert. On time too." She said before mumbling a 'for once' but I could clearly hear it.

"What do you mean, for once?" Robert asked.

The girl was now facing us, her head slightly handing down so we could not see her. I noticed her hand move up to her hood, ready to pull it off her head.

And when she did, my body froze.

I looked to Robert at the same time he did and his eyes were wide.

"Riley?"
