Chapter 46

___

Song Of The Chapter

Heartache Is A Cold Place by A Boy and His Kite

or

Comptine d'Un Autre Eté by Die Fabehafte Welt der Amélie Piano

(The second is more of a background song but I used it for ballet and it sounds perfect for Alyssa's situation right now so yeah.)

Alyssa's POV

It just started to hit me how much I actually missed Austin.

His laughs. The stupid faces he would make to get me to smile. His unbelievably lame jokes. The way he blushes when he gets embarrassed, especially by his mother. Every time I refused to kiss him, he would become a stubborn 6 year old. Whenever we were out together, with friends or not, he would act like a buffoon to embarrass me which never really worked.

All of that is gone now. I'm not quite sure if I would ever get it back.

My life slowly dragged on, nothing very exciting wanting to occur. I kept my distance as long as I could, but I just couldn't take it anymore. I could no longer feel or be happy. All of a sudden, I became this soulless, depressed person, beginning to give up on love.

At school, the bullying may have slightly begun again. It was a girl this time. Her name is Jessica Flores. She barely knows me but apparently she is very close with Austin. Noticing that Austin and I never talked anymore, she began to kiss up to him. I've seen them talking and hanging out before classes and at lunch multiple times.

Jessica thinks it's funny to pick on me with her so-called clique, consisting of three other girls who I don't even bother to acknowledge whenever they were around. Sometimes she would call me names and say I would be 'playing hard to get'. Other times she would just lie to Austin about something that I did, or said, or even thought. I heard that she told Austin I was hooking up with a new guy every night. Clearly, I'm too depressed to even talk to anyone.

Also, Riley is back. Turns out, she never moved. Actually, she never even left the school. She admitted that she cut her hair and changed her style, just to be 'in disguise'. I thought it was the most idiotic thing to do, ever. Especially since all she wanted to do was to get back at me.

Riley even set me up with Alex, which I thought was the rudest thing to do.

I was sitting in my room, finishing up my homework, when I received a text. It was from Alex. He told me to meet at his house because he needed to talk about his feelings. Curiously, I replied with an 'okay' and set off for his house, which wasn't far down the street.

When I reached the front porch, one of Alex's gardeners began to mow the lawn, creating an annoying sound that was a mix of a cow mooing, and a cow dying.

"Oh, hey Alyssa. What are you doing here?" Alex caught me off guard as he leaned against the doorway.

"You said you needed to talk about something." I answered.

"What? I can't hear you, come inside." He said as the obnoxious lawn mower drove around the front yard. I followed him into his house and he quickly shut the door, shutting off that annoying sound outside. "What were you saying?" He asked.

"You said you need to talk to me about something." I repeated, wondering if he was even on the same page.

"I did?" He furrowed his eyebrows.

"Yeah, you texted me..." I answered.

"But I lost my phone two days ago." Alex said in confusion.

"Then who was I texting?" I said, more to myself than to Alex. I looked to the side, biting my lip and starting to think of who could have been texting me. If Alex lost his phone, then someone must've found it and used it as an advantage towards me. Who would want to get at me though? I haven't talked to many people in a while, I couldn't have set someone off like that.

I turned to look at Alex and as I did, he grabbed my head with both of his hands and smashed our lips together.

"Alex!" I pulled back immediately and stared at him in utter shock. "Why did you do that?" I half yelled.

"I don't know, something just came over me." He shrugged as his eyes grew wide. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

"It's fine. It's not like I'm cheating on anyone..." I calmed down, almost whispering the last part. "I think I'll just go home."

"Be careful. It's dark out." Alex accompanied me to the door, flashing me one last smile before I walked out and into the cool night.

Alex's house was very close to the park, maybe a two minute walk, but you could definitely see the park from here. I decided it would be nice to just get some fresh air so I walked to the playground which was located next to the basketball courts. The basketball court was very lit up, illuminating the four basketball hoops planted on the periphery of the square court. I sat myself on one of the swings, my feet barely off the ground.

To get my mind off things, I quietly sang one of the songs I performed at concert once, in my head. My eyes wandered carelessly as I swung my feet, not exactly intending to actually swing. I glanced at the basketball courts and to my surprise, someone was actually standing there. Three, actually. It looked like a girl and two boys.

They seemed to be talking but I couldn't hear them so I decided to focus on something else. I swung my feet carelessly under myself as I held onto the chain of the swing with my right hand, the other resting in my lap.

I thought for a long time. An unhealthy amount of thinking had been roaming through my mind and I couldn't figure any of it out.

Do I really miss Austin?

Why don't we just get back together, pretend this whole thing never happened.

It never happened.
