Chapter 40
___
Alyssa's POV
After Austin had walked out of the room, tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
To tell you the truth, I remember everything. I never forgot about Austin. About us. Or Alex, or Robert. I remember what happened after that night, the crash, everything.
Why was I pretending I forgot everyone? Because I was mad. Not furious, but mad. At Austin mostly.
One, for not listening to me when I told him to slow down and it'd be okay.
Two, I heard him talking to Alex about Taylor when I was 'sleeping'.
I stared at the picture of us for a while, sniffling at the memories. It pained me so much to tell Austin I don't remember him. I didn't plan on keeping my act forever , just a few days so I can cool down and get myself together.
I heard a creak outside my door and my head snapped up.
Austin.
My first instinct was to run. So I did. Out the door and out of the house. I heard him behind me, calling my name and telling me to stop. I just kept running. He wasn't supposed to see me cry.
I just kept running. Where? I don't know.
The only place I can really go is Madison's house. So I headed there.
"Alyssa!" Austin yelled far behind me.
"Leave me alone." I mumbled to myself as I ran my hand under my eyes, wiping the tears.
I had reached Madison's front yard and Austin was still far behind me. Ringing the doorbell, I paced around the front porch, hoping she'd be home.
"Alyssa." Austin caught up with me, completely out of breath. I shook my head and took off down the porch steps. But this time, he caught my arm.
"Let go of me." I tried to wriggle out of his grip.
He stared at me, just waiting for me to settle down, his hand still holding my arm.
"What do you want." I muttered, looking away.
"The truth." He lifted my chin.
"What truth." I turned my head away.
"You know what truth. Just give up the act."
"What act." I said bitterly.
"I know you remember me."
"What are you guys doing?" Madison's voice came from the door. My eyes shot up and I ran towards the door, only to be caught again by Austin.
"Let go of me!" I pushed his hand away.
"Not until you tell me." He demanded.
"Stop touching me, I don't know you!" I yelled as I yanked my hand away and ran inside the house, closing the door quickly.
"What happened?" Madison placed her hands on my shoulders.
"Can we talk in a more private place?" I asked. She nodded and led me down the hall to her room. I sat on the bed and she sat across from me in her swivel chair.
"So, you know how I haven't been talking to you for like, three weeks?" I played with my fingers.
"Yeah, what happened? Was something wrong? Did I do something?"
"No, it wasn't you. It was Austin." I paused. "We were out for dinner with Alex and Robert one night and these paparazzi kept chasing us. We were in the car on our way home but their black vans were on our tails. So Austin decided he would break the law and drive way above the speed limit. As a result, a semi truck hit my side of the car." I paused again, letting her take in the information.
"And you didn't tell me anything? I could've stayed in the hospital or something with you." She said.
"I was in a coma for two weeks so..." I shrugged.
"Oh... It's okay. Go on." She prompted.
"Well while we were driving, I kept telling Austin to slow down but he wouldn't listen. I thought it would be a funny joke to pretend I didn't remember him when I woke up." I stifle a laugh before continuing. "But then, I overheard him talking about getting back with... With Taylor. They thought I was sleeping but I was wide awake." I twiddled my thumbs.
"Did he actually mean it?" Madison asked.
"I don't know. I hope not." I shook my head.
"So when are you going to tell him about... Remembering everything?"
"I don't know... I already told Alex and Robert when Austin left the hospital room and I told them not to tell him." I told.
"I think you should give him a day. Let him really realize what he said and then get him." Madison said aggressively.
"You know what? I will." I nodded and giggled.
"Good. Now, you should get home. Want me to walk you?" She stood up and quickly hugged me.
"No it's fine. I'll be okay." I nodded and headed out the house.
"Text me if you need anything." She called out.
"Thanks." I called back as I walked out the door.
My house was a few blocks down and it took about 10 minutes to walk home. On my way, I knew I would pass Austin's house but I'd try to walk by as fast as I could.
As I reached the front of his house, I noticed a boy sitting on the porch steps.
It was Austin. But he was with someone. A girl.
She looked like she was trying to comfort him.
I stopped in my tracks when I noticed who she was.
Taylor?
"It's okay, she doesn't deserve you. Maybe this all happened for a reason." Taylor soothed.
"But I... I love her." Austin cried, rubbing his temples.
"If she loved you, she would be able to remember you."
But I do love you Austin...
How did Taylor get here though? I thought she lived in Hawaii...
Maybe he called her over or something. Maybe they're secretly in a relationship behind my back.
No, you're ridiculous Alyssa.
But it's possible. Austin seemed like her really loved Taylor when they were together. And yet she still cheated on him. But I bet he still loves her. More than he loves me.
I hadn't realized I was staring at them until I noticed they were staring back. I blinked a few times but that only made a few tears roll down my cheek.
Austin stood up, but Taylor just glared at me.
I didn't move because my legs wouldn't allow me to. It was like being stuck in quicksand.
He took a step towards me and I flinched a bit. My feet still wouldn't move.
"Alyssa..." He said quietly but I still heard him.
"I... I..." I started but my legs finally managed to move, causing me to book it down the sidewalk and into my house.
I couldn't hear him behind me so I assumed he wasn't trying to chase me again. I ran into the house, yanking open the unlocked front door and shutting it behind me.
I leaned my back against the door and broke into more tears. My back slowly slid down the door until I was sitting on the floor.
I don't know what to do.___
I'm sorry if it's horrible, I wrote it on my phone and it was in between my dance classes when I had an hour break. Eh.
