POV: Mackenzie

The aftermath is always worse than the initial incident. As expected, my parents and Jade's parents aren't talking to me anymore. At least not right now. They are too worried about Jade and Skylar, and part of them blames me for what happened.

When I first saw Skylar's apartment, I wondered how anyone could have enough rage to do this. Now, as I clean up the pieces, I understand how someone could be so angry that they did this. I feel that way now.

I run my hand over a large stab wound in the dry wall before patching it up with spackle, running my hand into the mess to wipe it smooth. Then I wipe the excess on my jeans. Darleen wanted to hire someone to do this, but I told her I didn't want anyone to see Skylar's apartment like this. I also didn't want it to get leaked to the press. So, we agreed to do it ourselves.

"You're making a mess," Darleen chuckles.

She's been trying to lighten the mood since we got here two hours ago.

I'm just not up for it.

There is too much dark energy in this place.

While I initially suggested we keep separate living areas to give us space to get used to this poly relationship, I can see now that decision was a huge mistake. I should never have let Skylar out of my sight. At least if Jade had visited Darleen's house, she would have been forced to behave herself.

The bed got the worst of the damage. It was like Skylar didn't want a single trace of that bed intact. Probably because she was ashamed of making love to Jade again. The floors are okay, once we cleaned up all the blood and debris, there wasn't any lasting damage.

The furniture is garbage, but can easily be replaced.

The walls got the worst of it.

I'm surprised no one called the police on Skylar.

The animals are very worried about her.

Darleen took them to the mansion to watch them while Skylar is gone.

She and Jade are both in separate mental health hospitals right now. They've been there a couple of days. Skylar is adamant about getting out in time for Olympic qualifiers. The doctors don't agree with her.

Those qualifiers are in two days.

"Come on, cheer up, Kenzie," Darleen pouts.

"It's hard here," I admit as I patch another hole.

"Emm," Darleen hums in agreement.

Darleen patches a hole herself, using a scraper to smooth it out.

Skylar's mom and sister were here earlier. She started crying, so she left. Darleen and I told her we'd take care of it.

"Do you think we should end the poly relationship?" I ask Darleen.

"Do you?" She turns to me in confusion.

"Well, if it caused all this, then maybe we should call it off. Clearly, Skylar still isn't ready."

Darleen comes and sits next to me on the floor.

"I don't want to call it off. You say this is the last thing Skylar needs. I say without this, she has nothing, and she will only continue to fall apart. She needs us." Darleen says.

"Emm."

It's not like I don't agree, but I still can't help feeling like this is all my fault. I flew too close to the sun, like Icarus, my wings melted, and I fell down. I caused this with my selfishness. I forced Skylar and Jade to face each other.
