POV: Darleen

My phone ringing startles me awake. I glance at the caller ID in confusion.

Vida?

"Hello?" I answer cautiously.

"Have you seen Skylar?" she asks in worry.

"No, why?"

"She's not in class this morning. Yesterday we kind of got into a fight, and I'm worried about her. She's not answering my calls."

I sit up and rub the sleep from my eyes.

"Can you try calling her? At least if she answers you, I'll know she's okay." Vida says.

"Okay, let me try, I'll text you." I quickly hang up.

"Everything okay?" Kenzie turns to me in bed

"I think Skylar finally told Vida the truth, but now she's not answering or going to class." I try to call Skylar.

It rings and rings and rings, and no one answers.

A sense of dread fills my stomach.

"Come on," I get up and quickly get dressed.

"You think she hurt herself again?" Kenzie also quickly gets up.

My heart races in fear.

"You still have the spare key to her apartment?" I ask.

"Yeah."

"Let's go check on her."

Kenzie doesn't argue. We quickly get in the car and drive to Skylar's apartment. Her car is in the parking lot. I run upstairs and unlock the door, Kenzie right behind me.

I gasp as I open the door.

Everything, and I do mean everything, has been destroyed.

The walls, the couch, the floors.

It's all trashed.

"Skylar!" Kenzie calls in fear.

Ace runs out of the apartment, scared out of his mind.

"I'll get him," Kenzie runs after him to catch him.

I'm scared to go look, I don't know what state I'll find her in. Still, I take a step into the apartment and walk over all the rubble looking for Skylar.

"Skylar," I call cautiously.

No answer.

Kenzie comes back in with Ace and shuts the door behind her.

"Skylar!" I call again.

I walk to the bedroom and find the bed has been shredded. There is blood on the floor. I follow the trail to a knife sitting by her legs. For a second, I fear she's dead. She has that far-off look on her face like she's not thinking a single thought at all. But then I see her chest rise and fall slowly.

I feel relieved.

She's naked, curled up in the corner of the room, staring at the one patch of wall that doesn't have a hole or a mark on it.

"Skylar," I cautiously approach her.

"I couldn't do it," she says softly.

"Couldn't do what?" Kenzie asks.

"I couldn't kill myself."

My heart stops.

Kenzie freezes in her steps.
