"Welcome to the local PD department. We don't have much room, but feel free to set up where ever. Oh, and welcome back home, Miss L/N," the Deputy, Colby Brandy told you and Hotch as you walked into an an office.
You nod in reply, not saying anything.
Everyone else was already set up, ready to go out on the field.
"We're going to go check out the crime scene," JJ announced as Reid, Morgan, and Rossi followed her out of the Sheriff's Department. You begin organizing files trying to ignore Hotch's eyes. You could basically feel them glare into your soul. Almost as if he knew...
"Ready to head to the Orphanage, Y/N?" You slightly jump at the sound of Hotch's voice.
"Yeah. I'll drive," You offer as Hotch tosses you the keys and head out to the SUV.
**********************
You were focused on the road the whole ride even though it was only about a five minute drive from the station. Every now and then you saw Hotch glance at you as though if he were profiling you.
"Are you alright, Y/N? If this is about the letters-"
"It's not about the letters. It's just personal stuff," You told him, even if it didn't sound convincing.
"You can't worry about personal issues right now, Y/N. The team needs you to have your mind clear for this case since it's directed towards you," Hotch said as he got out of the SUV.
"Great, just great," You muttered to yourself as you un did your seatbelt and jogged over to catch up to Hotch.
"JJ told me you know the owners. Mr. and Mrs. Brandson? And they have an older son, don't they?" Hotch asked before he knocked on the door.
"That would be correct," You said, avoiding eye contact with him. He then proceeded to knock. Seconds later, the door flung open and Mrs. Brandson answered.
"Oh, Y/N, what a surprise-"
"Ma'am, we're with the FBI. Is it alright if we could ask you a couple of questions?" Hotch interrupted her as we showed her our badges.
"Oh of course, this must be about the girls. It's such a dreadful thing, I can't believe someone would even think about it. Those girls were so sweet," Mrs. Brandson replied as she shut the door behind us.
"That's why we're here, Mrs. Brandson," You say, trying not to get agitated.
"Oh, well," Mrs. Brandson said with a slight chuckle, " You grew up so fast, Y/N. Turned out to be lovely young lady. Have you heard from Michael lately?"
Hotch gave me a weird side glance.
"No, I haven't actually," You say getting bad feeling in your gut.
"Mrs. Brandson, is it true that you didn't report the first girl's disappearance, Missy Evers? Age 11, height-" Hotch pondered but was cut off by Mr. Brandson.
"We shelter these girls. They have certain problems in their lifes that they want to short out-"
"At the age of 11? It's certain that Missy knows her parents are well dead," Hotch interrupted.
"Some girls choose to wander off on their own," Mrs. Brandson chimed in as she looked at me.
"Let's stay on track here, Mrs. Brandson. Agent Hotchner asked if you reported the girl's disappearance to anyone. Did you?" You entered the conversation.
"No, heavens. I thought she would be back that night," Mrs. Brandson replied.
"But didn't you find it strange when the other girls started disappearing. One by one?" You interrogated.
"We want an attorney present if we are going to be questioned any further," Hotch gave you strange look as Mr. Brandson requested the attorney.
"Have a nice day, Mrs. and Mr. Brandson," You say as you and Hotch got up from the couch. There was an awkward moment of silence, before a thud upstairs was heard.
"We'll be back with the search warrant," Hotch informed the Brandson's  as he walked out the door, you following him.
