Chapter Eleven

"Was I really that late? I was only a minute-"
"A minute and fifty two seconds," Spencer interrupted you.
"Just shake it off. Don't mind Hotch's judgy behavior," JJ reassured you as the three of you boarded the jet.
"Cross that off my bucket list," you say out loud, changing the conversation.
"What can you cross off?" Spencer asked you.
"Being on a jet or even up in the air for all that matter," You say as you took a seat next to Spencer, JJ sitting across from you.
"The odds of a single person being killed on a single airline flight is 1 in 29.4 million. The survival rate of passengers on a fatal crash is 24%," Spencer said at the top of his head.
"Is that normal?" You asked JJ about Spencer's random facts. Earlier he told you about the percentage of snow there was annually in Canada.
"Yes," JJ said as she shook her head yes as well.
"It's called an eidetic memory," Spencer kept making small talk.
"Or a genius," Rossi said as he was the last one to board the jet.
"That too," Spencer nodded as he opened one of the case files.
"The hostage situation started two days ago. Parents noticed that their children didn't come back home after a certain time frame and all went missing the same day. They did locate the missing children, however the kidnapper is refusing any outside communications," Hotch started giving a brief run down of the case.
"So how come they asked us to come? To help negotiate?" Morgan asked as he put his feet up.
"They're linking the hostage situation to a number of killings dating back more then thirty years ago. A group of children had gone missing, later found deceased. They're thinking it's the same guy," Hotch explained.
"So we have an old guy killing little kids? Why hasn't he killed them yet if he isn't accepting any outside communication?" You asked as the team looked at you.
"That's what we have to find out. We also have to get each and every one of those kids out safely," Hotch promptly said. "San Jose has an undercover hostage team that knows the whereabouts of the hostages. JJ and Rossi, I want you to stay at the police department. Handle the hotline, whatever is needed. Spencer and Morgan, you two meet up with the parents of the missing kids. Find any similarities and try to tie them with the kidnapper. YN and I will go straight to the place where the hostage is taking place," Hotch ordered everyone. Were you actually going on the field? Your first day? You couldn't tell if it was your imagination or not, but you swore you saw JJ eye you with a bit of jealousy. You shake the thought off as you begin to review of hostage rules and guidelines in your mind.
