"Just give me a second," you say as you sit across from Hotch and Reid. The rest of the team were out finding Mr. and Mrs. Brandson, as along as Michael.
"When was it the first time it happened?" Reid asked as you tried to block the images out of your mind.
"I don't want to be one know as the girl with the tainted past," you strictly say as Hotch nodded.
"I think everyone at some point in their life has had a bad experince or a rough patch that they don't want to talk about," Reid mentioned as you and him made awkward eye contact. What was his rough patch? You let your mind wondered but you quickly got back on focused.
"This information is strictly just for helping the case and that's it. I don't want any sympathy from this. I've moved on," you noted to them.
"I grew up here in Salem. I was orphaned at the age of five due to my parent's deaths. They had a head-on collision. My sister and I were placed in the foster care system but we wanted to stay in Salem, it was our home," you took a quick pause. You noticed earlier how Reid's eyebrow raised when you mentioned the car crash.
"That's when we met Mr. and Mrs. Brandson and their son Michael. I remember Alissa mentioning how Michael was in her class at school. There were other girls in the house with us but most of them had moved to different foster care families because they didn't like Salem or Mr. and Mrs. Brandson," your past was slowly beginning un-ravel.
"By the time I was ten, I noticed how different my sister had been acting. She wouldn't talk to me as much, she would only talk to Michael. One day, we were walking back from school and Alissa and Michael were debating on what game to play when we were to get home. We were close to the front porch, where Mr. and Mrs. Brandson would always wait for us. I suggested that we should play a game of tag outside but then my sister pulled my hand and whacked me in the face, causing me to fall to the ground. I was so confused, all I did was suggest an idea," you say, trying to remember all the details.
"Did any of the neighbors see you get hit by your sister?" Hotch asked. You saw an opportunity to reach for his hand but you decided to decide agaisnt it.
"No, I was pulled inside by Mrs. Brandson. I got out of everyone's reach and ran down to my room. The safest place I knew at the time. A couple minutes later, Alissa comes in and starts to apologize saying that she didn't mean it. That she had no other choice but to hit me, which didn't make sense to me until I got older," you tell them. They were quickly catching on.
"Mr. and Mrs. Brandson wanted your sister to abuse you didn't they? Your sister was probably threaten as well," Hotch replied.
You nodded your head.
"I had to cover up a bruise for a whole week. But then the next incident, was Alissa's junior prom. I was a freshman in high school and Michael and I had been seeing each other in secret. Not in a bad way, but just to talk. He wasn't that mean of a person. We became close friends. He told me that he had a way to get away from Mr. and Mrs. Brandson," you tell them, awkwardly making eye contact.
"He didn't want Alissa to come with and you couldn't leave her behind," Reid stated. Was he psychic or something?
"Right. The following week, Michael was planning to escape. He told me the exact location and how but I didn't agree with the plan. Before the day of his escape, I went down to the police station and told one of the deputies about what he was going to do. They didn't believe that Michael was actually going to kill Mr. and Mrs. Brandson so they sent me back. One of the police officers escorted me back home, but when we arrived back the house was chaotic. Mrs. Brandson was crying, Mr. Brandson was rather calm and then I found out that Michael had ran away. I assumed he just wanted to get out," you take a breath, allowing yourself to think of how to continue next.
"But then I realize that our lives could be threaten at any moment. I knew Michael had a plan, I just didn't know if he would follow through with it or not. The other girls had already been getting ready to go through any foster care system, but Alissa and I still wanted to stay here," you saw that Reid wanted to ask a question.
"What were the names of those girls? Do you remember?" Reid asked as he got out his cell phone.
"Hold on," you say as you retrieved a journal you always carried around. You flipped to the first couple of pages.
"Riley Yvers, Jennifer Humble, and Chica Mobille," you listed off the names.
You could tell that Hotch was trying to put together on what you and Reid were thinking.
"So you think my theory might be right?" You watched as Hotch raised an eyebrow.
"That Michael knew that Mr. and Mrs. Brandson were killing off the girls and giving fake documents to the county about the whereabouts of the girls? Yes. there could be some truth to that theory. I'll give the names of the girls to Garcia and see what see can find," Reid got up and exited the room, cellphone in hand.
"My question is, why did Mr. and Mrs. Brandson save you and your sister and didn't kill you off too?" Hotch asked as he got up.
"Believe me, it's been haunting me for years," you say as you grabbed your crutches.
"Are you ready to interrogate you brother-in-law?" Hotch asked.
"Absolutely,"you confirmed as you slowly made your way out of the office.
