slowly the freshman kids start to filter into the room. what she imagined was once a full classroom was down to around 15 kids. dome she recognised from hanging around the mall. she didn't even think twice before starting her history lesson. teaching the kids all about the egyptians, well. teaching them what she knew from the schoolbooks. her finger spinning the fabric bracelet on her wrist. and across town steve looked down at the bracelet she had made him. it had been made from strips of old fabrics. one of his shirts and one of hers. they both had one. and he finds himself playing with the fabric as he leans suspiciously close to nancy as they read through the manual. the floral scent of her perfume fills his nose as his hand brushes against nance's. and he can only focus on how similar but different the two are. piper was sweet with a hint of spice, like cherries dipped in amaretto. and nancy was foral with a sharp edge. like the flowers that look so pretty yet can be so deadly. he shakes the thought away as nancy motions for them to follow.
"i don't see it." robin questions as she looks up at the red radio tower which looks above them.
"it's up there somewhere. it's gotta be." nancy replies as she lowers her eyes from the tower to the group.
"so i guess somebody's gotta climb to the tippy too of this bad boy and-" robin speaks again, imitating a squeaky noise as she trails off.
"without a harness or anything, it seems kind of dangerous." nancy adds with a tone of humour behind her words. like she could predict what happens next.
"aka a job for good old steve harrington." steve joins as he steps forward. pulling his hands out of the pockets of his jacket.
"no third person please." robin begs as jonathan steps forward as well.
"i uh. i actually think yhis might be a job for jonathan byers." he adds. and steve's face twists into a amused look as they both shrug their jackets of onto the floor. and begins walking to the tower. and in less then a minute both boys are climbing like animals up the side of the tower. racing up to the top. as nancy and robin stand clueless at the bottom.
"what is it about ypur presence that brings out their inner neanderthal?"
"isn't steve like in love with piper? why does it seem like he still wants me-" nancy starts before the sound of a vehicle cuts her of. a big lorry was heading straight for them. the grocery delivery. murray. and by the time the two boys reach the bottom of the tower, Murray had started going through the stuff on their 'grocery' delivery. bullets, shells, grenades.
"but I don't think it's gonna go to well with peanut butter or mints."
"boppers! god, i missed those things." steve laughed, tobin noticed the slight difference in his behaviour at the small tin of mints. which he tucked into the pockets of his jeans almost as quick as he could.
"don't worry mr byers. i got you a present too. i know you're allergic to jazz, but just give it a whirl. i think you'll find it quite engaging." murray adds as he pulls a tape from his jacket pocket. some scrappy tape that .makes jonathan go all nervous for some reason as he to follows steve's behaviour of pocketing it away. and he carries on with the rest. information them of the news of the military tonight. a crawl. for tonight.
and across town, the school bell sounds for lunch. the kids of her class leaving the room just as quickly as they entered. she sits at her desk. pulling out her lunch box, a small sandwich with the thinnest slice of ham and cheese as humanly possibly. a small bag of salted crackers and some really awful dried fruit and nut cereal bar that genuinely had the texture of crumbled cardboard. when her classroom door swings open. the three boys practically stamped in. luckily she had been given a classroom very close to the cafeteria so they took it as use of their own little place to have their lunch in peace. where they could sit and talk about the killing vecna plans and the crawls.
"i'm telling you, he's lost his mind. he told me he wanted to start hellfire again." lucas starts the conversation as they sit. piper smiles gently as she lowers into the seat beside will facing lucas. lucas popping the table of a can before sliding it over to piper, before opening an orange fanta for himself.
"what? when did he say this?" mike questions, a look of surprise spread across his face.
"this weekend. he was talking about finding the lost sheep."
"amd we thought the shirt was bad."
"i'm really worried about him. steve keeps complaining that dustin never wants to hangout with him anymore either." piper joins as she takes the nibble of the cereal bar. wating to spit it out immediately but she needed all the food she had.
"i'm telling you. he's lost his mind." lucas muttered. and the door slammed shut. heads spinning so fast necks could have snapped.
"who's lost his damn mind?" dustin added as he basically threw himself in the spare seat.
"andy." mike and will added.
"steve." piper spoke. all three speaking at the same time. dustins throws a look through the group as in he knows they were caught in the suspicious. he nods slightly as he hums. when the radio on her table sparks up to life again.
