IT'S LATER that night when the plan was in motion, Steve's Beamer parked across the street from the Turnbow house as the Squawk van was parked a little down the street. They all waited and watched as Erica walked over to the front door and rung the doorbell. It didn't take long for Tina to let her into the house once she did open the door and got fake apologized to.
"She's in." Dustin tells them. "She's in." Steve says into the supercomm. It gives James dèjá vu and he's thinking of Max all over again. The Henderson then reached over, grabbing the radio from him, "hey, what..." Steve said, looking back at the boy who was squished between Nancy and Jonathan in the backseat. "Sinclair, come in. Do you copy?" He asked into it.
"Yep, this is Sinclair. Copy. Go ahead." The boy replied to him. "Sinclair, I'm confused. I thought your sister said that Tina was mean." The Henderson said. "Oh, no, no. She's not mean. She's a villain. Like kill the puppies for a fur coat kind of villain. Trust me." The Sinclair replied as James looked at Steve, both conveying the same look of confusion. The group go back to waiting for Erica's signal, watching the house as Dustin glanced between the couple in the front seat, then back and forth between the two he was sitting in between of.
When Tina gave them the signal, they got on the move, the five hopping out the car and going over to the opening garage door where Joyce was now backing up the van into. James walked over, opening up the back of it and all three hop out from the back. Steve simply looked at Dustin and walked away, so it's clear that they're still mad at one another. James decides to help Dustin with the supplies instead.
They closed all the curtains in the house, put pillowcases over the Turnbow family's heads and loaded them up into the van with Robin, Erica, Will and Joyce. Steve shut the back doors with James' help before he tapped the window and the Byers woman drove off. The rest of the group got to setting up the house, moving furniture around and setting up the traps.
As Jonathan, Nancy and Lucas work in the basement, James and Steve worked upstairs with Mike and Dustin. They set up the traps, including the hole they planned to make in the floor in the living room, and the nails covered plank hanging from the ceiling on the second floor in Derek's doorway. Dustin handed everyone each some sort of tool in the garage, all of them ready to start cutting the hole in the floor. And then James turned around to be face to face with a chainsaw. He immediately started smiling ear-to-ear with the idea to use it.
"Guys. I got this." He said as he stepped into the living room, they were all ready to swing the axes in their hands. He then revved the chainsaw, and before getting to work and cutting the floor. Everyone just stood there, watching him. "Your boyfriend's probably a maniac..." Nancy quietly told Steve, because the entire time, James was smiling way too big. "Yeah. Maybe." The Harrington replied.
Once the hole was done, James shut off the engine and looked down into the basement, sighing loudly. "I want this thing." He turned to the others. "No. Put it back." Steve demanded and the Hopper frowned, but obliged as he went back to the garage to put it back where he found it. Nancy and Jonathan set up the basement with the barbed wire as they work on covering up the hole with the carpet.
Once everything was set, Dustin, James and Steve headed back out to the Beamer while everyone got into place, ready for the Demogorgon. "This is gonna work." The Henderson suddenly spoke in the silence, sitting in the middle of the backseats. "It better work. It's not like we're conspicuous or anything." Steve said as James looks over at his boyfriend. He meant the big antenna on the roof.
"Hey. Talk to me, guys. How's it looking out there?" Robin's voice came through on the radio that James held up. "It's boring." He told her. "How are the Turnbows holding up?" He asked next, glancing out the window. "Uh, they're still in their "food comas," but I swear to God, this Demo better show. If we took out an entire family for nothing, my conscience will never recover." The Buckley replied and Steve chuckled as James just grimaced slightly.
