IN THE Upside Down, the group of five have probably been following the Demogorgon around for quite some time, as they were now reaching the cemetery. "Looks like our boy's taking us on a shortcut through Roane Cemetery." Steve told them as they pass the sign. "That's almost at the county line." Nancy says, glancing over at him.
"Doesn't this thing ever get tired?" Jonathan wondered aloud. "Uh.... unfortunately, it looks like the opposite. I think he's speeding up." Dustin informs them. "Wait, what?" James turned around. "I'm losing the signal." The Henderson explained, reaching up. "Can you go faster?" The Hopper now asked his boyfriend. "Let's see." The Harrington shifted gears and his engine revs as he began speeding faster.
"Henderson, you've gotta talk to me. What have you got, man? Henderson, what--" "wait! I'm picking up interference." Dustin was staring down at the device in his hands. "How is that important?" Steve exclaims. "It means he can't hear the signal!" James said just as Dustin exclaimed, "it means I can't hear the signal!" Which only annoyed Steve. "Well, then listen harder, Henderson!" He now shouted at Dustin. "You wanna try to put these on?!" The younger boy exclaimed back at him.
"I'm driving!" Steve argued. "Yeah! You do the driving! I do the navigating!" The two kept arguing. "What is that?" Jonathan asked Nancy. "I don't know." She replied as she hits James' arm and Jonathan reached to tap Steve's arm. "Steve, slow down." Nancy advised him, but he's still arguing with Dustin. "Steve!" James shouted at his boyfriend. "Steve, watch out!" Jonathan shouted and Steve turned around, hitting the brakes of his vehicle, but it was too late and they crashed into the wall.
"No, no, no, not the Beamer!" Steve exclaimed and James looked over at him. "Seriously? Your... your first thought is the Beamer?" He asked before he quickly spun around. "Is everyone okay?" He asked the three. "Yup." Dustin said, his face in a grimace. "Never better." Jonathan quipped as Nancy sighed, nodding to James before the three began hopping out of the backseat, "guys, go slow." He warned them before he finally looked at Steve.
"James, baby, I'm so glad you're okay." He reached over but the Hopper held up his hand. "Save it, Harrington." He said, getting out of the car next and looking up at the wall that they had just crashed into. He sighed, shaking his head as he walked over to the others who had all taken out flashlights, shining them all around them and walking around the area. "I'm gonna try Hop, see if he responds." He told the group, taking the radio out from his jacket pocket and extending out the antenna of it.
"Dad, do you copy? It's James. Dad? Do you copy? This is your one and only son, so, please, please--" "hey! Hey, it's dad. I copy." His dad's voice came through. "Oh, my God! Okay, thank God. Guys, he replied!" He calls out to the others who all came running over. "El! Ask about El!" Nancy told him. "El, is she with you? Over." He now asked. "Yes! I'm here. Over." El's voice came through and James smiled as the other four felt relief wash over them.
"Great! So glad to hear your voice, El. Both of you." He added then he sighed, "I don't know what you're doing right now. Or if you're caught up in something important, but--" "James. Come on." Jonathan told him. "Meet us!" Nancy adds. "Meet us at Roane Cemetery church, please?" He asked into the radio. "Roane Cemetery? How the hell are you contacting us from there, James?" His father replied back with.
"Right... you don't know. Um, dad, we're in the Upside Down." He said. "What?" Jim replied with, glancing at El. "Long story short, we're in here to track a Demogorgon using our telemetry tracker, only to then hit a wall. Literally. Now, Steve's beamer is stuck, so we need El to come and pry it loose using her powers so we can resume the search for said Demogorgon which will, in theory, lead us to Holly. Does any of this make sense, dad? Questions? Concerns? Over." He then said in response, all quickly.
