"Dear Diary,
Yesterday evening was a hazard. I'm currently sitting in the Great Hall, but not to eat as you might think. I'm actually leaning against the stone wall sitting in a sleeping bag. I conjured a warming spell, so the cold of the marble floor doesn't creep in. Next to me lies Gemma curled up as a ball. She wants me to think that she sleeps, but I see her gnawing on her nails.
And no diary, not just her and me decided to break some rules or strangely had the urge to try out the hard floor. The whole school lies back to back in here and only that because of Sirius Black.
Apparently he was in the Gryffindor Tower. Attacking Ron. Of course, when I heard the news my heart sunk. Not because a mass murderer is in here (although if you think too much about it, it is very concerning. What are the dementors doing in their job?), more because Ron is still so young. I can't imagine what that must have felt like, to get awaken in the middle of the night, by the most searched man, and being able to get away. However, the whole castle only talks about Harry, as if Ron wasn't the one being under the radar.
When Flittwick came and told us all to gather in the common room, neither knew what to say exactly. The whole Common room was silent on the walk down to the Great Hall. Which doesn't happen often. My mind always Wandered, even though, I had to look out for Gemma.
I hold her hand, while we walk side by side. Her short curly hair stands in every direction, sleep still written on her face, but her lips tremble ever so slightly. She hasn't said anything, but her glossy eyes tell me everything. She is close to loosing it, and I need to do everything in my control to help her quieting it down. I can only guess how nervous this situation makes her. Flittwick runs in the front, swallowed whole by the mass of people behind him, his wand in the air, a glowing light showing the way.
Roger Davis is in front of us, having a weary eye on the first years walking nearest him. To not scare them further, he lightens up their disorientated mind with some moving light bulbs. The kids seem mesmerized by it.
The front door appears and I see some Hufflepuff students coming the way from underneath the stairs. Sean's head whips around, frantically searching. When his eyes locked with mine, he relaxes. I nudge Gemma and point towards her brother. She squeezes my hand. We aren't allowed to leave the lines, everything is strictly planned, therefore we have to keep walking. Sean falls into a slow step besides his friends again and we are lead to the side of the hall, towards our sleeping bags. I don't know what to think. This seems too bizarre, too unreal to even take serious and yet this is another dangerous matter happening here in Hogwarts, although it is known as the safest place. I settle down, instantly rewarded with a cold bum. Slowly the chattering awakens around us. Another lot of students sprawl into the hall. The Gryffindors. In front a stern looking McGonogall, behind the first years. The second years, the third years with a really pale looking Ron, the fourth years and there he is. Fred. He jokes around with Lee and George, seemingly making the girls laugh.
"How can they laugh about a situation like that? Can't they ever be serious?" I hear someone mutter annoyed.
"Yeah, why do they need the feel to flirt now"
Two girls a year above us sit together and judge the whole situation. Their eyes are frantically searching for someone to be their next victim of disgust.
I shake my head. If these two would realize what the boys are actually doing. However, they seem to lack the intelligence to it.
Fred's eyes lock with mine and for a moment, even just for the tiniest one, his smile seemed to fade. I feel a pit in my stomach opening. Did I imagine things or is something wrong?
