"I spy with my little eye..." Felix trails off. "Something... ." I let out a loud sigh and he muffles a laugh. Felix wiggles his eyebrows at me with a cocky grin.

"If it's grass again, I am going to fucking flip." He giggles and pecks me on the cheek. I let out a loud sigh. If I could cross my arms right now, I would. He messes with my hair and I allow him... only because I'm trying to concentrate on driving and don't have time to swat him off.

"Okay, okay. Maybe it was grass." He laughs evilly when I Iet out a frustrated argh. Nate's snoring from the backseat makes the situation seem even more ridiculous. The kid is snoring so loud right now that it's actually appalling. I don't ever snore and neither has he. This is the first and hopefully only time I will hear it.

"There are millions of other things to look at!" He keeps laughing at me. "Seriously, why don't you look for a food joint or something that isn't generic fast food. I'm kind of hungry for something more than nutella." Felix puts down the window and the wind nearly breaks my ears. After a second, though, I get used to the wind and start to enjoy the ricochet and the way it whips my hair all around. It flies in my eyes and sets this warm feeling in my heart that I've been missing for a long time now. Something I doubt I ever have truly felt before.

Peace.

Felix is laughing and smiling and sticking his head out the window. Nate is sitting up bleary-eyed, telling us to shut up. All I can do right now is smile. Which is weird, because smiles don't come that easily to me anymore. A random thought pops into my head, a thought that I haven't allowed myself to think after everything bad has happened to me.

Nothing could ruin this moment.

And for once, nothing does. I am not jinxed after saying that, surprisingly. A car doesn't swerve out in front of me or a bird fly into the windshield or... well, no bad things happen. A million scenarios that usually hit us, bad things usually follow us everywhere once we immediately feel hope. But for fucking once, we're okay.

"Cry, what's wrong?" Felix asks, pulling his head out of the window and staring at me. Nate mumbles something sounding like "fuck this shit" and curls up into a ball again, falling right back asleep. We both laugh at him.

"Hm?" I grin at him and wink. "What do you mean?" A small smile that I can't understand creeps up onto Felix's face and spreads until he's basically shining like the sun. He throws his head back and laughs for a little while, and I raise my eyebrows at him. I'm tempted to tell him that he sounds like a dying hyena, but decide against it.
