[two weeks later]

---

Cry has been in and out of consciousness for a few weeks now. It feels like a few years to me. I’ve been staying with Genia, as my mother left recently. She didn’t really care when I told her… my mom and I are pretty close.

Minx has been sticking around, too. She doesn’t always talk much, but when she does, I make sure to help her smile. I know she betrayed us, but the person who she loved was in danger… so I can’t really blame her. I’d do the exact same for someone I loved. Cough, Cry, cough. I wish I could do something now. The past few times he’s woke

[flashback]

I was sleeping for a few hours before yelling and screaming woke me up.

“Pewds… Felix… PEWDIE!” Cry screams, thrashing in his bed. I jolt awake and immediately stand up, my eyes still bleary. “I’m sorry… no…”

“Cry,” I say, pinning his flailing arms down. “I’m here. It’s going to be okay.” He starts to relax, his eyes half open. He looks me straight in the eye.

“You’re going to die…”

[reality]

haven’t been pretty. When he told me I was going to die… It sent shivers down my spine. The way he said it, his voice was so full of pain. Like if I died, he would die along with me.

“Felix, do you think he’s going to be okay?” Nate interrupts my thoughts. I’m sitting at the end of the bed, smoking on of Cry’s cigarettes. In the past few weeks I’ve started to smoke. Nate is holding onto Cry’s hand, sitting in a chair beside his bed. His other hand holds Cry’s mask, which he hasn’t let go of for weeks.

“I don’t know, Nate. He isn’t in a coma… but…” I pause, taking another drag. I feel really out of character smoking, but I needed something that reminded me of Cry. Something that I could be close to. “I think he’s just getting his strength back.”

“Like I’m healing from my gunshot wound still?” Nate asks, and I nod. Nate has been way better lately- I think this kid might be deadpool in disguise, the way he heals. I’m just glad that he’s okay.

“Yeah, exactly.” I stand up and he looks at me weirdly. Usually we stick around Cry all day, in case he wakes up. Sometimes I even sleep in here.  “But hey, why don’t we get out and do something?”

“Like what?” Nate says. I can tell he’s trying to sound unexcited. We’ve stuck around the house for a while. “I’m not going to a place where there are a lot of people. Crowds kind of creep me out, and I think I’ll have a meltdown if I’m among a bunch of idiots.”

“I know, I know. I don’t like crowds of people either.” I snuff out my cigarette on the wood end of the bed, knowing that if Genia was here she would kill me. It’s a surprise that she hasn’t blamed me for the times the smoke alarm has gone off. “Hell, how about Dairy Queen or something? It’s not too far.”

“Ice cream?!” Nate’s whole face lights up.  “I freaking love ice cream! Can Minx come, too? She’s really nice.” I nod and pocket the packet of cigarettes. Nate stands up with the mask still in his hand.

“Minx!” I yell, and the response is muffled from the other room at the end of the hall. “Get your ass out here. We’re going to Dairy Queen!” A door at the end of the hall bursts open and Minx collides into Nate. The two lay on the ground laughing.

“Did I hear you say ice cream?” Minx asks excitedly, and I laugh. “Alright, I’m in.”

“What are you all doing, blocking my hallway?” Genia startles all of us. My immediate reaction is to hide behind Nate. That woman is crazy. She gives me bruises with that spoon of hers. It’s so weird, too. We all know that she knows Amy is dead. But none of us have gone to see if her body is still at the library. None of us even talk about her.

“We’re going out to eat ice cream. Want to come?” Genia rolls her eyes and shakes her head. She puts her hands on her hips and glares at me. “What? Is ice cream above you, old woman?! Getting too old for a little fun?” She luges around Nate and smacks me with the same damn spoon that she carries around everywhere. I yelp and fall to the ground, immediately covering all the vital points.

“No, I just don’t want to spend time with you. Uncultured swine. I’m too old for this.” she huffs, and walks down to her bedroom and slams her door. I hear muffled laughter and we all burst out laughing. My smile falters for a second, thinking of a pale Cry, lying in the bed a few feet away…

But…

He would want me to be happy… so I have to keep smiling.

“Hey, Fe, you okay? You look a little pale.” Both Minx and Nate turn to look at me worriedly. I put on my happy face and nod at my new friends.

“I’m fine.”

“You shouldn’t have paid,” Minx mutters, stuffing her hands into her pocket. “I could’ve…”

“Oh, don’t be a little bitch. Eat your ice cream.” I bump her hand so ice cream gets all over her face when she licks it. She yelps and laughs, doing the same to me.

“Nate, you’re going to be fucking sick once you finish that.” He has a super huge waffle cone in one hand. The kid is already half finished with it. I have chocolate with sprinkles, and Minx has a swirly chocolate vanilla thingy majigy. Minx punches my shoulder and rolls her eyes. We both have chocolate on our faces.

“Thou do not use that type of language around little kids.” She flicks my forehead and I laugh. We both start arguing what’s acceptable language for kids, but we both forget to watch Nate, who stepped into the road after dropping Cry’s mask, which he carries around. He picks it up again, and drops it again, right by my feet. I lean down and pick it up, planning to hand it to him.

Like it was planned, a car comes out of nowhere.

I look up just in time to see Nate get hit.

“Nate!” I yell and the driver just speeds off. Minx runs to Nate’s still body, yelling his name. I squint, trying to see what the plate numbers are, but the car turns. It’s a blue Ferrari, with the windows tinted. I can’t tell who the fuck is driving it… but the car is noticeable… someone rich is driving that shit.

I will find whoever that was and make them pay. I swear it.

“Felix, call 911.” Minx is trying to stay calm, but I see fear in her brown eyes. “He isn’t waking up…”

>>>>

I am so mean. Lured you into a false sense of security, right? :3 Nobody is safe, even if they just go for ice cream… anyways! I hope you all have a good morning, noon, and night. Deuces!
