"Nate, really, will you be okay when I'm gone? I worry about you." I look at my little brother, who is messing around the public computers. He barely looks up at me.

"Everybody knows not to mess with me anyway, or else you'll get them," Nate says impatiently, and I can only blink. "I've learned a few tricks from watching you people beat people up over the years."

"Nate..." I bite my lip under the mask that marks my reputation. "I've told you a million times that - "

"That you're sorry? Screw you. I don't want your apology, Cry," he snarls, and I flinch. Nate is the only one who can to talk to me like this. "Get out of my sight until you realize what you're actually apologizing for." I take a few steps back, hesitant to leave my little brother with the bullies lurking around. They aren't sane people. Those bullies want to kill my brother just to get at me.

"I didn't want to become this, Nate. I did it for you. All of this, for you." I turn on my heel and begin to walk away. "Remember that."

"Just... go away. You just don't understand what I'm saying... that stupid mask blinds you." He says, but I'm already too far gone, distance and spirit.

Pushing my backpack higher on my shoulder, I'm standing as casually as I can at the bus stop, waiting for what else... the bus. A few people are milling around, talking to your friends, and whispering about me. I'm sure they've heard about me, people in and outside my 'home' have. Bad reputation is a good word to describe my life. But, honestly, I never wanted to hurt anyone. I just wanted to be left alone. I'll take a beating, but if anyone ever hurts my brother... they die. I may have caused my parent's deaths, but I don't have to cause Nate's, too. I found the mask on the ground one day, when I was younger. Then it wasn't a mask, just a face some kindergarten drew to be silly. Honestly, I don't know what drove me to make it into a mask. It worked, though, because everyone seems scared and intimidated by it. Even people I've never met.

The bus screeches from around the corner, and my eyes follow it. Everyone clears out of the way, making a path for me to get on first. I don't even blink. Things like this aren't surprising - but I'm really not out to hurt anyone. I walk up the steps as quickly as possible, but realize my mistake when my foot catches the top one, and I pitch to the ground in the middle of the aisle. A few snickers, then silence as a girl gets out of her seat to help me up.

"Sorry. Pretty much everyone has done that at least once." I take her hand, and she pulls me up. "My name is Red, by the way." She has a tattoo on her arm of something I don't recognize, and fiery red hair that lives up to her name. Green eyes are shrouded by glasses, most likely for seeing far away.

"Oh, I'm Cry," I stutter, and by now everyone is ignoring me, and it's hard to hear Red over the loud conversations. "Nice to meet you, Red." She seems surprised, but in a good way. Her face stretches in a wide smile.

"Heard you were the bad boy at the orphanage, but it doesn't look that way." Red ushers me into a seat, claiming the window as hers. "You're a lot nicer than they say."

"I only beat up people if they threaten my brother," I mutter, and she rolls her eyes. "And other special cases."

"Special cases, like that Spoon kid? You broke his nose!" I shrug, unfazed. "Oh, come on, he had to do something that really ticked you off."

"I don't want to talk about it," I say, and she shrugs again. This girl is pretty brave to push me. It's true. Spoon didn't threaten my brother, but he called me a pretty nasty word that was just asking for me to punch him. "It's a long story."
