~One week after Gabe sold his soul and Sam left~
Dean slammed the door as he walked back into the motel room. He'd gone outside to pray to his brother, to talk to him, but Sam didn't reply.
"Gabriel I don't know what the hell you said but you better call him back," Dean growled at Gabriel who was casually looking through his laptop.
"Nah," Gabe said. "I like it better when he's not here."
"Yeah right, you missed him like hell, you prayed to him every day. Now call him back."
"I don't want to see that S.O.B," Gabriel spat.
"Gabriel please," Cas murmured. "If it'll make Dean shut up."
"Yeah not to mention now I'm stuck here," Dean said. "Sam could break it and now he's gone."
"Can't you just turn it into a proper bond?" Gabriel asked. "Then you can come and go as you please."
"Then it's a proper bond. As in the angel version of marriage. Hell no."
"Wow offended," Castiel muttered. He was sitting in front of a laptop, but his eyes were drooping and his head falling every now and then.
"Cas get some sleep," Dean said, noticing Cas' tiredness.
"I need to find a way to stop this," Cas murmured. "To stop Gabe going to hell."
"It's gonna happen one way or another Cassie, no point in even trying," Gabe said. "Just let it happen."
"No," Castiel murmured, his voice getting quieter. "I...can't..." He leaned his head down on the table, falling asleep instantly. Dean sighed and walked over to Cas. He picked Cas up gently and placed him on the bed, pulling the covers over him.
"You know I really don't think you hate him that much," Gabriel said to Dean. "I mean look at you two."
"Shut up," Dean muttered. He sat beside the sleeping Castiel, watching over his human as he slept. Gabriel sighed and went over to the other bed, turning the lights off on the way.
As Gabriel was about to fall asleep, he did the same thing he had done every night that week. He opened his mouth to pray before remembering what Sam did. And then he stopped himself and said nothing.
~~
Sam accidentally broke the wall. Again.
What Gabriel didn't know, was that every single time he was about to pray to Sam, some sort of link was opened between them. And Sam could hear all of Gabriel's thoughts.
And all Gabriel's thoughts were about how much he hated Sam. How much he was so mad that Sam hadn't saved Cas. How useless Sam was.
And this made Sam angry. Angry at himself and angry at Gabriel for not understanding. Which of course is how the wall broke, his wings had a mind of their own and in his anger smashed through the wall again.
But if Gabriel did this for long enough, Sam would start to believe it, wouldn't he?

~9 days after Gabe sold his soul~
"Sam. Come on. Just get over here for like five minutes would you?"
"Dean I don't think it's working," Cas growled.
"Well what am I supposed to do?"
"Don't you have any other angel buddies to call?"
"Not really...well maybe. Jo, you out there? You listening?"
