Gabe walked through the bunker, looking at all the stuff the Men of Letters had. It was unbelievable how much information was here, it all would've been so helpful on many of their cases.
"Gabriel."
Gabe turned and saw an almost frightened looking Sam.
"Sammy! Three days, whatever have you been doing?"
"Trying not to die," Sam muttered, walking over to Gabriel. "I've only got bad news."
"Great," Gabe said sarcastically. "Has the apocalypse killed the world yet?"
"No but Cain has found a temporary vessel."
"Well shit."
"He's looking for you Gabe."
"Double shit."
"And heaven wants Cas."
"The hell with that," Dean said, walking into the room. "Why didn't you use puppy dog eyes and convince them?"
"I freaked okay," Sam said, exasperated. "Adam has this way of getting into your head."
"Meaning, he used Gabriel against you," Dean said. Gabe looked to Sam with wide eyes.
"Oh god, Sammy I'm sorry," Gabe murmured.
"Don't be," Sam said. Dean just rolled his eyes.
"So you just left?" Dean asked.
"What was I supposed to do?"
"Find a way to stop them!"
"Well why don't you get them to? They'll listen to you, not me. And it's not like they can use Cas against you..."
Dean was silent at that, his jaw doing the jaw thing.
"Dean...you're the archangel. They'll listen to you. No one cares about the younger brother."
"Adam's younger than you," Dean said, "and they listen to him."
"That's because he's been the only archangel in heaven since we were exiled," Sam said. "If you go back they'll forget about Adam."
"I don't want to go back!" Dean near yelled. Sam stopped and fell silent. Dean turned and left the room, fuming.
"Sam," Gabriel said softly. "You said before that you were trying not to die...what happened?"
"Cain wanted to know where to find you."
"Did he hurt you?"
"No...he thought I would help him, being such an obedient angel and all. Well, I used to be. When I wouldn't say anything, he got into my head. Literally this time."
"And of course he would've seen me," Gabriel muttered, rubbing his hands through his hair.
"Yeah," Sam said. "He was trying to get where you were out of me...then decided what better way to draw you out than by hurting the one you love?"
"What did he do?" Gabe asked, checking Sam for injuries.
"I escaped before he could trap me," Sam said. "And came straight back here."
Gabe sighed with relief, before leaning up to kiss Sam gently. "Be more careful next time, okay?"
"I was pretty careful this time."
"But he still almost got you. Almost is too close."
Sam smiled softly and leaned down to kiss Gabriel again. "You worry so much. Why?"
