"This is weird," Sam said quietly as they walked through purgatory. "Adam said this was where the demons had pretty much set up their base or whatever."
"Then where are they?" Gabe asked.
"I don't know," Sam replied. There was nothing in the forest around them, no demons, no leviathan.
And then they found something else.
"Oh for dad's sake," Sam muttered. "The angels must be winning this war."
"And they didn't tell us?" Gabe said.
"Well they won't win until Charlie's dead," Sam said. "So they would still want us going after her."
"But didn't mention that they weren't in purgatory anymore."
"It probably happened after we got here. Besides, purgatory is still the battlefield."
"But we're going past that," Gabe said. "Into there." He gestured to the strange black hole thing. "What's through there anyway?"
"Don't kill me," Sam said. "But it's hell."
"If you were anyone else I would kill you," Gabe said. "You're joking. Please tell me you're joking."
"I'm not," Sam said, wincing.
Gabe didn't say anything, just looked down as he remembered the two times he'd spent in hell. First after selling his soul and then in the cage with Cain.
"It's okay," Sam said. "We'll be okay."
"You sound like you're trying to convince yourself," Gabe said.
"I am," Sam replied.
"Well," Cas said, walking up to them. "It's either we go through here and continue with the mission or get out and have heaven trying to use us. Or our family."
"Cas has a point," Gabe said. "We have to...we have to go back to hell."
"If we could avoid this in any way, I would choose that way," Sam said quietly. "I'm sorry Gabe."
"It's okay, I'm fine," Gabe muttered. "Fine."
"No you're not," Sam said. "I can get inside your head remember. Look, if it becomes too much at any time, tell us." Gabe nodded, and Sam leaned down to kiss him on the forehead before pulling him into a hug. Gabe hugged Sam tight, afraid that if he let go, if he went into hell, he would be lost.
"You ready?" Sam asked softly.
"I never will be," Gabe said. "Let's go."
And with that, the four of them stepped through the black hole into hell, Cas kind of half dragging Dean behind them.
They appeared in some sort of dark hallway, two demons standing next to the black hole. Sam took no time in smiting them instantly.
"Well," Sam said. "On we go. I should be able to fly in here."
"You know we could probably try and summon her again," Gabe said. "Now that she's here and not in purgatory."
"We'd have to get out of here first," Sam said. He was silent for a moment. "Oh no...that's not..."
"What is it?" Gabe asked.
"I can't fly out of here," Sam said. "Which means Charlie must know we're here."
"You think I wouldn't notice two archangels stumble into my kingdom?"
They turned around to see a woman with red hair standing there. She actually looked kinda harmless and like she could be nice. But this must be Charlie.
