"Dean," Sam said, running into the room the moment he sensed the change. "You...your grace."
"Dad gave it back," Dean said, still hugging Cas. "He..." Dean narrowed his eyes. "I can remember what he said..."
"But?" Sam asked.
"I can't remember what he looked like," Dean said. "He must've erased any memory of the vessel he was using. I can't even remember the name..."
"You had one job Dean," Sam muttered.
"Well I'm sorry I can't control what Dad does to me," Dean growled. Sam just sighed.
"I'm glad you're back," he said with the hint of a smile. "No more obsessing over trying to get your wings back."
"Yeah, what are we going to do now?" Dean asked.
"I have a few ideas," Cas said. "Gabriel...you haven't been paying attention at all have you?"
"No, what's up with Gabriel?"
"The cage," Sam said bluntly.
Dean swore quietly. "Cain must've done something while his soul was still there...when I couldn't protect him...Sammy I'm sorry."
"You tried to protect him?" Sam said quietly.
"Of course," Dean said. "He's human. And he makes you happy. He needed protection."
Sam looked at Dean for a few moments, swallowing. "Thank you," he said, his voice hoarse.
"Sam you're my brother," Dean said.
"We have multiple brothers."
"You're my favourite brother. Like, you're the only one I would actually call family, with the meaning behind it that humans have."
"Oh so you're learning," Cas said with a small smile.
"Yep," Dean said. "You guys aren't that bad."
"You weren't saying that yesterday," Cas said.
"Too soon," Dean said, wincing. "Hey so speaking of Gabriel...where is he?"
Sam went silent for a moment. "He's downstairs...he's...uh I'll be back." Sam ran out of the room and downstairs to where Gabe was sitting in the corner of the room crouched in a ball. "Oh Gabe," Sam said softly, moving to crouch beside Gabe. Gabe didn't notice him. "Come on Gabe, come back to me."
"Sammy," Gabe said, his voice cracking as his eyes regained focus. "I can't...I can't do this..."
"What's he doing?" Sam asked, rubbing Gabe's arm comfortingly.
"Singing," Gabe muttered. "I swear that's all he does. He's singing about this pet lizard he thinks is a dragon."
"Tad Cooper is not a lizard," Cain said, looking up from the lizard in his hands he was singing too.
"Yeah and next thing you'll be singing about dwarves and giants," Gabe said, rolling his eyes.
"Gabe," Sam said slowly. "Did you just reply to him?"
"Yeah!" Cain said happily. "I've been noticed!" He clapped his hands childishly.
(If you can't tell, Cain is Omundson's character in Galavant now :P )
"Gabe," Sam said, his voice quiet enough that it was barely a breath. "You can't...you have to ignore him."
"Too late for that my dear Samantha," Cain said. "He's gone and no one can get him back."
"Shut up!" Gabe yelled over at empty space. Sam watched him with wide, sad eyes.
"Gabriel focus on me," Sam said, tilting Gabe's head so he was looking at Sam. "Ignore what's happening, focus on me." Gabe nodded slightly and looked into Sam's eyes.
