You took a deep breath. This wasn't much different than any other concert you've done. Sure, there were more people than you were used too but not much, then what was it?!
You sighed angrily to yourself and took another breath. You needed to calm down. There were people here to see what you got. If you were good they could help you.
You needed to look good for them. A lot of the people there were looking for new acts to sign or sponsor or whatever. There were interviewers for band magazines in a small group not too far away from you.
No one had really noticed you just yet. You wondered if they had a little packet of bands they were supposed to find with their pictures next to your name or if they would just wait until after you were done performing.
That is, if they cared.
You curse yourself because of course they cared! It was their job to care even if they actually didn't. You looked back at the pack of interviewers and sighed. They were mostly girls, you noticed. They all kind of had the same look about them; hipstery with short shorts, glasses and the perfect hair along with some sort of pass and tape recorder or camera.
A couple of them caught you looking at them and you smirked, inviting them over to interview you but no one moved. You looked down and smirked. That's right, they weren't there for you.
You were only playing the Kevin Says stage. That's where all the bands no one really cared about played. There was some story about it. Apparently, these small bands would come up to play at Warped Tour when it was just a small thing. They all said the same thing "Well, Kevin said I could play!" You guessed the name just kinda stuck.
Kevin was the creator of Warped Tour. You decided you liked Kevin a lot.
You glanced up at the little group of interviewers again but noticed their attention was now on someone else. You couldn't see who it was from where you were but you decided they must be famous.
That's what they were here for. They just wanted to interview the bands that came to watch the newbies. You sat down on the couch backstage. It was a small stage so there wasn't much back there but that.
That's when you heard it. The band that was playing the stage right now had fans, a lot of them. You'd never heard that much excitement from any of the shows you played back home. You'd always just been the opening act.
Even here, surrounded by the bands that were basically starting out, you were still a loser.
Tears pricked your eyes and you cursed your anxiety but you knew it was true. You didn't belong here. Your chest started heaving and you were glad no one was really around to see you. You bit your lip as you tried not to make a lot of noise as your walls came crashing down.
It's like every bad, embarrassing thing you've ever done came crashing down on you as you sobbed, practically hyperventilating. You felt your throat close and you whimpered at the feeling.
You hated this. You hated you.
Everything about you, you thought. Your face, your hands, your voice, you hated it all.
You were shaking when you felt a hand on your shoulder. Instinctively, you turned and pushed your face into whoever it was' chest. Their arms wrapped around you as they sunk onto their knees.
When did you get on the floor? You didn't know but you didn't care either. Whoever this guy was, he smelled good.
As your breathing calmed, you felt him rubbing your back soothingly. You sniffed a couple times before looking up at your saviour. You gasped when your eyes met.
"I-I-um." You began but you couldn't find the words. "It's just thank you." You finished, blushing. He pulled you up and helped you sit on the couch.
"You okay?" He asked simply. brushing off my condolences with a nod.
"Y-yeah." You stuttered. You cursed yourself for being so awkward and looked up at him. He didn't looked too convinced. "It's just that....I dunno....I have really bad anxiety and I just-I don't know why I'm even here!" You said, frustrated.
