There wasn't really any solid evidence to make you think Chris was cheating on you.

Sure, the fans shipped him and Ashley together-and he spent a lot of time around her-but there was no proof that he was doing anything he shouldn't be with her.

And yet you were still terrified that he would leave you for her.

In several ways, she was better than you. She was more attractive, she was more talented, and she was even more famous. In so many ways, she was better for Chris.

You felt horrible for thinking they'd do that to you. Your boyfriend was wonderful, and you were good friends with Ash but they seemed to make a much better couple in your head.

You'd hidden how you felt for quite some time, but Chris was beginning to catch on to your insecurities. Despite what some surely thought, he was actually quite attentive and paid attention to small things.

That's why he caught the sad glances and the insecure habits you'd picked up.

He let it go on for a while, thinking it was temporary and you'd come to realize that he wasn't interested in her, but your insecurities only seemed to get worse despite all the work he went through to change your mind.

When he finally acknowledged that the rift was growing, he decided he's had enough. He didn't enjoy seeing you broken apart inside over something that wouldn't happen, and he was going to put an end to your fears.

Chris cornered you while the rest of the band was out celebrating after the show and sat you down, and you knew from the expression on his face that his was a serious affair.

That's what made you nervous.

"I'm not breaking up with you Y/N." Chris assured you, catching on to your uneasiness. He'd gotten used to the little signs you'd show when you didn't like your situation-that sort of stuff does tend to happen when you're in a relationship for several months.

You breathed out a sigh of relief and gestured for him to continue speaking, since that obviously wasn't all that he had to say.

"I know you think I'm going to leave you for Ash, or cheat on you with her, but I'm not. Ash is just a friend, and the fans are just fans. What they ship has absolutely no influence on who I date. If I dated who the fans wanted me to date, I would be in a long-term relationship with Ricky."

You smiled slightly at his last sentence, but didn't seem to completely believe the others. Despite not believing, you wanted him to keep talking, so you didn't speak. You didn't want to interrupt him.

He sighed and moved over to your chair, lifting you up so he could sit on the chair and you could sit on his lap. normally, he didn't go crazy with physical affection, but he felt being close could help him convince you that he wasn't interested in nobody else.

"It's you that I'm in a relationship with, not Ash. You know me. You know that I wouldn't waste my time dating someone if I was truly interested in someone else. so what does that tell you?"

You didn't respond, so he said, "It should tell you that I love you, not her. I want to be with you, so I am with you. I'm not interested in being anything else except friends with her."

Sighing, you leaned into him. You felt compelled to believe his words, and your insecurities slowly began to ease away the longer you sat there. What he had said was sinking in, and you realized he was right.

You knew that he'd never waste his time dating someone he didn't love, and that meant that he loved you.

Not Ashley. You.

From that day on, Chris continued to do his best to assure you that he wasn't interested in dating Ashley. He showered you with affection in his own way, and slowly you began to feel more and more confident in your relationship.

Eventually, you were no longer concerned. Chris was yours and you were his, and Ash wouldn't get in the way of that.
