I quickly spray my lightly with perfume and take a quick glance at myself in the mirror. My hair and make-up are on point, but I look exhausted. Oh well.
I grab my purse and make my way to Chris' house. By the time I park, everyone is already there.
I walk in and the guys are all sitting around, drinking beers.
"Y/N! about time!" Chris says, hugging me.
"I know, I'm sorry! But some of us have 9 to 5 jobs." I smile.
I say my hellos and sit next to Ricky. Ricky and I have been friends for years and because of this friendship I've gotten really close with the whole band. The band has been touring all summer, so this is the first time I've gotten to see them for a long time.7
"So how was the tour?" I asked all of them.
They all nodded and told quick stories. The stories are always my favourite. Sometimes it's just fan stories or things that fans have done. Sometimes it's drunk stories and sometimes it's just stories of them being stupid.
I look at Ricky and notice he's not really looking at me. He hasn't said anything other than hello since I've been here. "Are you okay?" I ask, a little concerned. The rest of the guys are going on about their experiences on tour.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He assured. "A little tired."
"You and me both." I smiled. "Did you have a good time on tour?"
"It was pretty fun, exhausting though." He says shortly and then tries to change his attention to everyone else's conversations.
I gave up trying for now, so I decided to get a drink. I make my way to the kitchen and Chris follows me.
"Hey, what the hell is wrong with Ricky?" I ask, going through his fridge.
"I honestly have no idea. He was fine before you got here." He says, peaking back into the living room.
"What the hell did I do?" I'm shocked. We've been talking all through the tour, just like we always do. What could I have possibly of done?
"I have no idea." He says, helping me find a drink I'll like. He pours a few things together and hands it to me. "This should do for now."
"My hero!" I say, putting my hand on my heart. We laugh and make our way back to the living room.
I decide I'm going to drink a little more before I deal with Ricky. In the mean time, I sit next to Ghost.
After only a few sips of my drink I'm starting to feel the alcohol. I don't know what Chris put in this drink, but it's magical.
Chris makes me two more and I'm happily intoxicated. Ricky still hasn't talked to me so I decide now is a good time before I get sloppy drunk.
Ricky gets up to get a drink and I follow him. He sees me and just pretends I'm not there.
"Ricky, what the hell is going on with you?" I ask, trying to make him look at me.
"Nothing. You're just drunk." He says, making himself a drink.
"Ricky, you've barely spoken to me this whole time! What did I do?"
He takes a deep breath and looks at me. "You didn't do anything." He says quietly.
"Then what is the problem?" I ask. I feel like I'm missing something. He's never been this short with me.
"Y/N, I'm just going through some stuff." He says vaguely.
"Like what? You know you can tell me anything! We're best friends Ricky." I move a little closer to him, but can see he's uncomfortable about it so I back up a little.
"That's the thing Y/N. We're friends."
"What does that mean? You don't want to be friends?" He's taking quick looks at me, but is mostly starring at the floor.
"No no. I love being your friend... it's just." He pauses and takes a deep breath, finally making real eye contact. "I want to be more than friends."
I'm speechless.
"For years now I've thought about what it would be like to be more than friends, but this past summer, you're all I thought about. All I wanted to do was see you and be with you. I finally realized you're who I want to be with...if you want to try this, I'm all in." Ricky is waiting on my response and I can see the anxiety on his face.
"Ricky, you're my best friend. You're who I go to when I need someone. You're someone I know I can call in the middle of the night and will answer. I've always had feelings for you. I...I just never thought you felt the same."
A big smile comes across his face and his eyes brighten a little. He puts his hands on my hips and brings me closer.
"Y/N, will you go on a date with me?" He whispers, putting his nose on mine.
"I'd love to." I say with a big smile.
He kisses my cheek and finishes pouring his drink. We agree not to tell the guys and make our way back to the living room.
I've waited for this moment for so long that it feels like a dream. Maybe it's the butterflies, maybe it's the alcohol. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
