Marissa and Fawn got to Ferguson later that night. They landed the spaceship in the middle of the street and walked out of it.
It was abandoned, just like they both expected. The buildings nearby were crumbling to pieces. The street was dark due to the streetlights being out.
"Do you know where it is?" Marissa asked.
Fawn exhaled slowly. "Yeah. I think so... I can pull it up on my phone if I'm not sure." Fawn pulled her phone out to get her maps app open.
"I'm gonna use my phone as a flashlight." Marissa took her phone out and turned the flashlight on. "There. Now we can see where we're walking."
Fawn nodded. "Yeah... Let's go."
Fawn and Marissa walked down the street together carefully. Fawn stared straight ahead, her eyes no longer focusing on anything. She was just on autopilot.
But a lot was going on in her head. How is he gonna kill me? Is he gonna shoot me? But is he going to use a gun or some other thing? Is it gonna hurt? Is Sirius Black right: it's quicker and easier than falling asleep? What if it's long and feels like I'm suffocating?
Fawn's heart started beating faster, her breathing becoming more shallow.
"Fawn?" Marissa asked.
Fawn stopped and looked at her mother.
"Are we supposed to turn somewhere?"
Fawn looked down at her phone. "Uh, yeah. We're making a right..."
And so they kept walking.
