Patrick and I have been best friends since we were kids, we grew up together in Buffalo. When he left for Chicago after being drafted, we drifted apart. After about a year we lost contact all together. What hurt the most was all the promises that he broke.

I was walking through the city of Buffalo, snow was lightly falling coating everything in a light white dust. I pulled my coat closer to my body as the wind blew through the city. Christmas was fast approaching and I still had a ton of shopping to do. I finally got to the mall and as soon as I stepped in, I was engulfed in warmth and greeted by Christmas decoration after Christmas decoration. I put my gloves and beanie into my purse and pulled out the list of gifts that I had to buy...

Art supplies for Jessie (Niece)

New hockey stick for James (Nephew)

Cologne and sweatshirt for Mike (Brother)

Monogram Necklace for Sammy (Sister in Law)

Get pictures printed and necklace for Mom

New golf clubs for Dad

Boots, necklace and lotion for Erica (Pat's sister)

Sweater, necklace and perfume for Jackie (Pat's sister)

Dress, necklace and lotion for Jessica (Pat's sister)

I went into the jewelry store to find necklaces for my mom, Sammy who is my brother's wife, Erica, Jackie, and Jessica who are Pat's sisters. I already got gifts for Pat's parents. I got Pat Sr. some new Chicago Blackhawks gear and I got Donna a gift card to a new spa in the city. As I was looking around I accidentally ran into someone. "Oh god I'm so...sorry," I looked up and saw Patrick. "No worries, Katie?" "That's my name don't wear it out," "It's been forever since we've talked," "I wonder why?" I sassed and started looking around. "Katie, what's wrong? I just want to catch up," "We shouldn't have to catch up Pat. You promised me that we would talk all the time and look at what happened. You became Mr. NHL Superstar, I don't need my best friend anymore. Just leave me alone," I turned and continued to look at the necklaces. "Katie! Listen to me please. I didn't want to stop talking to you," "Than why did you?" I said looking him into his blue eyes with tears forming in mine. "When I left for Chicago, I was so homesick. I missed my parents, my sister. I missed you more than anything.Leaving you was the hardest thing I've ever done. I decided that the best way to stop missing you was to just distance myself and eventually I wouldn't miss you anymore," "And how'd that work for you?" "It didn't. I longed to call you, to hear your voice. I had to stop myself from just jumping on a plane to come see you," "You could've called," "I was afraid that you'd be mad at me, that you'd want nothing to do with me," "Patrick, you are my best friend. I can't be mad at you, even if I was, it wouldn't be for long," "So would you do the honor and become my best friend again?" He asked. I smiled, "Of course." We hugged and life suddenly seemed normal again. I was just happy to have my best friend back.
