"Daddy?" You asked when he sat on the couch. "Yes baby girl?" "When's mommy coming home? I miss her." Tears filled your eyes and your dad pulled you into his lap. "I don't know sweetie, hopefully she'll be home soon. She told me that she'll call you before bed tonight okay?" "It's not the same." "I know but until she comes home this is what we have to do." "Why is Bella's mommy home?" "Because your mommy is doing something very important. She is protecting you, and me, and everyone else in the country. Lots of other little boys and girls like you, their mommy's and daddy's are doing the same thing." "So mommy is far away with other mommy's?" "Yeah exactly. And all the little kids miss their mommy like you do." You nodded.

TJ's POV

It broke my heart to see my little girl crying. I tried so hard to explain the fact that her mom is in the military in a kid friendly way because I can't just say your mom is in another country killing other people so that we can be free. It's been hard not having her mom, my wife, my best friend home with us. I tend to drown myself in hockey but then my mom will bring Julia to the rink and then she's the only thing that matters. I have to be strong for her.

I decided to turn on a movie for the two of us and Julia was curled up in my lap, her head resting on my chest. We were interrupted by a knock on the door, Julia was fast asleep so I carried her with me. I opened the door and saw Braden. "Come with me." "Why?" "No questions come on." I put shoes on and grabbed my keys and put Julia in her car seat and followed Braden. We ended up at the rink and I was confused. I picked up Julia who stirred. "Daddy where are we?" "At the rink?" "Why?" "Because someone asked us to come." She yawned and put her head in the crease of my neck. I followed Braden inside and we went to the locker room. "You're surprise is inside." I pushed open the door and saw my wife in her uniform. She had tears in her eyes and I had tears in mine. Julia wiggled out of my arms and ran into her mom's arms. I went over and we had one big group hug. "I love you." "I love you too." We kissed and Julia ewwed which made us laugh. This is my family and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
