***Based on the song Friends Don't by Maddie & Tae***

Friends don't call you in the middle of the night

Couldn't even tell you why, they just felt like saying "hi"

You were woken up by the constant vibrations of your phone against the wooden top of the night table that sat next to your bed. The first though that comes to mind is who is calling at 2 o'clock in the morning? The next thought was, did something happen? You quickly reached to grab the phone and the caller id read Conor. Conor has been your best friend since you were in diapers, you two were just absolutely inseparable growing up and still are. "Hello?" You answered. "Hi." "Conor it's two in the morning. What's going on?" "I just wanted to say hi."

Friends don't stand around playing with their keys

Finding reasons not to leave, trying to hide the chemistry

Conor had spent the day at your apartment and it was getting super late. He had no reason to stay other than to just hang out but you couldn't help but pick up on his hesitation to leave. He was leaning against the wall, playing with the keys in his hand. "Conor." He looked up and you caught eyes and it was like the world around you slowed down. Your heart skipped a beat.

Drive a little too slow

Take the long way home

Get a little too close

We do but, but friends don't

You went to Conor's hockey game and the Pens pulled out a huge win against the Capitals. So to celebrate you and Conor decided to go out for ice cream rather than go drinking with the team. However, after you guys had finished eating Conor started driving around. It was approached 1 am so there weren't many people on the roads if there was anyone. So Conor decided to just drive. The speed limit was 40 but 20 mph sounded a whole lot better. He drove around the city in no rush to get home. Your arm was resting in between the two of you and Conor's arm was laying right next to yours. You watched the city lights pass by and felt a weight in your hand and you knew it was Conor's hand but you were in no rush to pull away. A smile just spread across your face and you continued to watch out the window singing softly along with the radio.

They don't almost say "I love you"

When they're downtown somewhere, just a little drunk

You were sitting in your living room when your phone started ringing. You put down the text book your were taking notes on and grabbed the phone. "Hello?" You answered without checking who it was. "Y/n!" Conor laughed from the other side of the line. "Conor are you at a bar?" "Yeah." He laughed more and you couldn't stop the small smile that came to your face at Conor's random laughter. "Is anyone from the team sober enough to take care of you?" "I don't know. I have to tell you something!" "What is it?" "I love you."
