Olympics, an event that is seen all over the world as each country fights to prove their worth on almost every athletic field possible. You are a soccer player for the United States which to be selected for the olympics is a huge honor especially with the amount of people and the skill level that can be picked from. The thing that excites you the most is that your wonderful boyfriend Connor is going to be joining you and your family in Rio.
You meet Connor in high school when he moved to your hometown of Erie, PA to play for the Otters. You had a few of the same classes and immediately clicked and became best friends. You started dating about a year after you met, junior year of high school. You currently attend Penn State working on a degree in Sports Journalism with a minor in photography. Being so far from Connor is definitely difficult but we make it work and whenever we can we are visiting each other. We make it work though despite the thoughts of other people saying that we won't work out. However you like proving people wrong.
It is the gold medal match of the Rio Olympics and you are getting the start on the left wing which is a lot of pressure on an 18 year old. Connor, your parents, and your brothers are all going to be at the game. Right now you are feeling a lot of pressure to perform. You were in the locker room preparing for the game and your hands were super shaky. Hope Solo came over and pulled you over to the side. "Listen, you'll be fine. You don't need to feel as though you have everything on your shoulders, Jill gave you the start because you deserve it. You're only 18 one mistake isn't going to kill you or your chances on this team. Calm down okay?" "Thank you I needed that." "I could tell now come on we've got a gold medal to win." You both smiled and went back and finished getting ready and you were a bit more relaxed.
You were in a 3-3 draw with Canada and now it was going to penalty kicks and Jill told you to take the 5th kick. So you all got ready and it got started.
You walked up to the spot, if you get this in you win gold, you miss and you win silver. You took a deep breath and got into position. The whistle blew and you hammered the ball into the bottom left corner and it flew past the goalie. You just won the gold medal in the olympics. All the girls ran over and tackled you to the ground. "You just won us the game!!!" We all got up and properly hugged and stuff. You were given a flag and a shirt. You put the shirt on and then wrapped the flag around my shoulders as we waved to all the fans and shook hands with the Canadian players. "You and your little boyfriend? That won't last much longer." One girl said and walked off and you rolled my eyes. You went over to where your family and Connor were and You gave them a wave. Your mom and dad were crying and your brothers were taking pictures and Connor had this huge look of pride. Your best friend on the team, Mallory, ran over and jumped on your back and waved to her parents who were next to your parents, also crying. "We are so proud of you!" They called down to you guys. "Thank you, we love you guys!" You were eventually called over for the medals and there was such an immense amount of joy and pride when they put the medals around our necks.
You and Mal went to meet your families because you guys can't legally celebrate by going out with the team so your families would have to do. Connor was the first one you saw so you ran over and he caught you in his arms and you guys kissed. "You did it beautiful." "Yeah yeah we did. Wow." He chuckled and put me down and you hugged your brothers and then your parents and some how your mom was still crying. "We are beyond proud of you baby." "I wouldn't be here without you guys." A reporter came over and asked to ask a few questions for NBC so you agreed. "Can you take us through that penalty kick?" "The only thing going through my head was just don't let anyone down, don't let them down. I didn't want to be the reason we went home second best." "How does it feel, 18 years old, winning the gold medal in a team like this?" "It's incredible really, the depth of the team and the players trying to make the team is amazing and to be able to break through at only 18 is amazing and I'm so thankful that I was given the opportunity." "How do you have to thank to get you here?" "Well obviously Jill and the coaching staff for seeing something in me but then my family and friends. My parents have sacrificed so much for me to be here for me to even be playing. And my boyfriend Connor who has been there every step of the way and whenever I feel like nothing in the world seems to being going right, seeing him, or hearing his voice, even a text from him just telling me to keep going, to keep pushing, has helped me immensely. My family is the same just that small push even the big push telling me to get up and get moving if I want something, it has helped me so much and I can't be more thankful for all of them." "Congrats on the gold." "Thank you." He left and you turned back to your family who were in their own world. Connor hugged you again and placed a kiss on your lips. "I love you." "I love you too. Thank you Connor."
~sorry it's been so long but I hope you enjoy!!!!!
