"Hey," Lynn said, walking over to me. I was sitting on a bench, wondering if it would rain anytime soon, or if the sky would just stay a boring grey color until the sun came out. "Hi," I responded, looking up at her. She had her hair up in a bun, and wore a loose black shirt and jeans. "Ready to go?" she wondered, jangling her keys. I nodded, picking up my bag as I followed her to her car.
It wasn't anything special, just an old Honda that was in desperate need of a good wash. "Where do you want to go?" Lynn asked me as she pulled out of the parking lot and began driving down the road. I looked over at her and shrugged. "I'm not sure."
Lynn let out a little laugh and I blushed, slightly uncomfortable. "Let's go get something to eat. We can talk there," she suggested. I agreed and watched as she rolled down the windows. I felt the cold wind dance through my hair as I squinted my eyes, almost forgetting that Lynn was sitting right beside me.
"So, Alex, what kind of music are you into?" Lynn pondered, turning a corner. I looked away from the window and watched the smile spread across her face as I attempted to fix my hair. "Pretty much anything. Besides country and crappy stuff like that," I said, pulling down the sleeves of my sweater. That caused Lynn to let out another laugh, making me blush once again. "What about you?"
She thought for a minute and I admired her warm features, trying to be discreet. I noticed she had a little nose twitch, which was pretty cute, but I kept that to myself, obviously. "I like anything too. Country sucks ass. So does pop. I don't know. I write my own music so I guess whatever genre mine fits into," she said after a while. My eyes widened, surprised by her answer. "You write music?"
Lynn chuckled and glanced over at me, her eyes scanning my body briefly. "Yeah. I play guitar too," she replied, pulling into a parking space.
"Come on, let's go inside."
Lynn pulled her keys out of the ignition and I opened my door, stepping outside and feeling the ridiculously cold air nip at my pale cheeks as I followed Lynn into the small diner she had chosen. She sat at a booth near the back, with faded baby blue seats, part of the material cracked in certain places. The table was old too, with lots of scratches and smudges decorating its surface.
"So, tell me about yourself. Hopes, dreams, cliche stuff like that," Lynn said, leaning forward, her chin resting on her hands as her elbows sat on the table. "There's not much to say really," I mumbled, shrugging as I glanced out the window, avoiding her gaze.
"Come on. Humor me. There's always something to say," Lynn told me, flashing a smile. I looked back at her and sighed, trying to figure out what exactly to say. "Okay. Well...I play bass, draw, write, stuff like that. I'm failing all my classes but I don't really have the energy to care. Um...I don't know what else to say," I replied, laughing nervously.
Lynn leaned back in her seat across from me. "That's cool. Well, not the failing classes part but who cares about that?"
I smiled weakly at her. "What about you? What are some of your hopes and dreams?"
Lynn cocked her head to the side and started talking. "Well, first off, I'm really gay, so if that's a problem for you, sorry. I write music as you already know, and I'm trying to get my friend Brian to form a band with me, but I'm not having much luck so far. And I hum in my sleep sometimes but that's a different conversation," she laughed, just before the waitress placed two glasses of water on our table and asked for our order.
Lynn got pancakes, while I got waffles. Not normally food eaten for lunch, but whatever.
"I don't want to go back to school," Lynn sighed, playing with her straw. "Yeah, me too," I agreed, my face dropping once I remembered. Lynn stared at her drink for a minute, her lips pursed. "Do you wanna skip with me?" she proposed, looking up at me.
"You want to skip class?" I asked, surprised. She didn't seem like the type to cut class, and I had never done it before. "Yeah. We can drive around and go somewhere else. I don't know," Lynn shrugged, blowing bubbles in her drink. I watched her for a moment before giving in. "Okay. Yeah. That sounds good. And I'm gay too," I admitted. Lynn grinned, biting her straw. "Do you have a girlfriend?" she wondered, taking a bite of her food. I shook my head no, biting my tongue. "What about that girl you're always with? With the blond hair? You aren't dating?" Lynn pondered, taking another bite. "Jenna? No, we're just friends. She likes this guy named Tyler Joseph or whatever," I explained, biting into my waffle.
"What about you? Do you have a girlfriend?"
Lynn laughed for the millionth time that day. "No, I don't. I wish I did though."
I took a sip of my water, feeling Lynn's eyes on me. "Where are we gonna go?" I asked, curious to know what she had planned for the rest of the day. I wondered if she could maybe distract me, pull me away from everything I had been thinking. There was something about her that drew me in, wanting to know more, to feel more, have more. I didn't know what it was at the time, but part of me wanted to become closer to her and have her around.
After we finished our food, Lynn and I split the bill before getting up to leave. Without thinking, I grabbed Lynn's hand, trailing behind her. She didn't say anything, just gave my hand a small squeeze as we walked to the car.
I decided I liked Lynn, and I wanted to know her more.
Wow okay so this took me forever bc I'm a lazy piece of shit who needs to actually update regularly
