She Don't Ever Sleep

Boxes lined the walls and I gazed at them as Lynn lied by my side, her head resting against my shoulder. I looked up at the ceiling and sighed. The dress I was wearing was a light purple, without any sleeves. It went down to about my knees and it hiked up a bit as I lied next to her.

"We just graduated," Lynn mumbled, adjusting herself so that she was also looking up at the ceiling. I felt my eyes water slightly at that statement before nodding slowly. "It's hard to believe. I can't believe I leave next week. This all seems so surreal," I whispered, looking over at her. She smiled weakly at me before sitting up and reaching over for something. "I almost forgot. I got you something," she announced, handing me a small box with a bow tied around it.

"You shouldn't have!" I exclaimed, looking up at her with wide eyes. "Open it," she smiled, looking excited. I unwrapped the bow and took the lid off of the cardboard box, my eyes landing on a locket. I took it out and opened it, gazing at the picture inside. It was of Lynn and I holding hands. It looked like Dane must have taken it not so long ago. I looked up at her with watering eyes and wrapped my arms around her. "It's perfect. Thank you so much."

I sniffled before opening my drawer and pulling out a package for her. I handed it over and she gave me a look before smiling and opening it. She revealed a pack of guitar picks that I had gotten made for her since I knew how much she loved to play guitar. Beneath those was a new charm for her bracelet and a black ring. She grinned at me before looking down at the package. "These are all so beautiful. Thank you so much, Alex," she whispered, leaning forward and kissing me. "You're welcome. I wanted to get you something that was meaningful."

She nodded and smiled again. "It is."

"Alex! Have you packed anything else yet?" My mom yelled from downstairs, making me jump in my position. I must have fallen asleep with Lynn beside me. I groaned and rubbed my eyes, sitting up. "Yeah, I'm almost done!" I yelled back, laying back on my bed. Lynn curled up beside me and nuzzled her face in my neck, breathing in deeply. "I'm tired. I'm supposed to meet Brian and Alex for rehearsal in like an hour," she groaned, not making any effort to move. "You should go then, make me proud. I'll be at your graduation party tomorrow, I promise," I replied, kissing her forehead.

She didn't say anything for a moment, then nodded her head and sat up, pulling her hair back into a ponytail. "I can come back later. I'll take you out to dinner and we can hang out for a bit. I'll help you pack more too," she suggested, standing up and slipping on her shoes.

"That sounds perfect. You don't need to help me though, I've got it. You've done so much already," I exclaimed, crossing my legs. She just gave me a look before rolling her eyes at me and kneeling down on my bed to kiss my lips. "I'll see you in a couple hours babe," she stated, just before standing back up and opening my door to leave. I watched as she closed it silently behind her. I lied back and closed my eyes for several minutes before getting up to take off my dress. I unzipped it and slipped out of it slowly, strolling into my bathroom. I started the shower and undressed, looking forward to the warm water against my cool skin.

When I was done, I looked at my body in the mirror for a few minutes and tried to ignore all the flaws. The scar on my stomach from when I fell off the playground when I was 6. The bump on my hand from that one shard of glass I held too tightly. My dead eyes and somber expression. I turned away and finished drying off. I wanted to give Lynn something even more special. I didn't know what, but I wanted to make her now how much she meant to me.

I slipped on my underwear and bra that were lavender and decorated with lace. Not like anyone was going to see them, but who cares? Don't judge it makes me feel good.
