"Alex, guess what?!" Jenna exclaimed, causing me to jump in my seat. "Shit, Jenna!" I cried, looking up at her with wide eyes. "I found him, I found him!" she said excitedly, jumping up and down. "Who?" I asked, bewildered. "Dane! I found Dane!"

My jaw dropped and I continued to stare at her. Dane had been my best friend for years, until he moved in the middle of freshman year and we lost touch. "You're fucking with me," I said, shaking my head. "No, no! I'm not! He literally moved down the block from me! I saw him while I was walking Bandit and I said hi," she told me, smiling.

I felt nervousness and excitement course through my veins. "Does he know we're friends?" I wondered. Jenna nodded and I smiled, feeling happy for once. "It's his first day today. I told him to meet us. He's really excited to see you, Alex," she replied, touching my shoulder.

"Lex? Is that you?"

A voice that was both familiar and unfamiliar caught my attention, causing me to snap my head up and look at the person walking toward me. "Holy shit, Dane!" I yelled, running over to him. He opened his arms and I ran into them, hugging him tightly. I felt a few tears form in my eyes, and he held me close while I laughed into his shirt.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him, pulling away. "My mom broke up with her boyfriend and decided to move back to Massachusetts. Thus, here I am," he said, spreading his arms out. "I'll leave you guys. I gotta meet Tyler anyway," Jenna announced, waving goodbye.

Dane and I sat down at a table and he leaned forward, just like how he used to. "I can't believe you're here. I missed you so much," I told him. He nodded. "Yeah. I wish we hadn't lost touch. It sucks, but hey, we're here now. Tell me what's new. What have I missed?" he questioned, looking excited. I chuckled lightly before answering his question. "Well, you met my friend Jenna. She's pretty much my only friend. Um..I met a girl named Lynn and we started dating about 3 weeks ago--"

"You have a girlfriend?! That's awesome! What's she like?"

Dane was the first person I ever came out to. It was in 7th grade, and I was terrified that he would judge me and tell me he didn't want to be friends anymore. Instead, he was incredibly supportive and positive about it. He actually helped me work up the courage to tell my parents.

"She's great. She plays guitar and sings and actually writes some of her own music. She's really down to Earth and just overall a really nice and funny person. I'll have you guys meet after school. Hey, that reminds me...are you still playing guitar?" I asked him, tucking a strand of hair behind my left ear.

"Yeah, I've been playing a lot. My friend Alexa and I actually have a band called Heirsound. I play guitar and sing. Alexa mainly sings, but she plays guitar too. We have like one song but we're working on some more stuff. We just finished up two covers," he told me, playing with the strings on his white hoodie.

"That's amazing, holy crap! I'm so happy for you! Can I hear some of your stuff sometime?" I asked. Dane nodded and I grinned, unable to believe that my best friend was sitting right in front of me. "Yeah, of course Lex," he replied. No one had called me Lex in so long. Dane had called me that from the moment we met.

"What classes do you have?" I asked him. He took out his schedule and showed it to me.

Period 1 - Creative Writing

Period 2 - Physics

Period 3 - Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry

Period 4 - Music Technology

"We have music and English together. And damn, Trigonometry?"

Dane laughed and took his schedule back. "When does class start?"
