Lynn's P.O.V.
I must have been fucking crazy. Prom? Looking at myself in the mirror, all dressed up like that...Why would she even be interested in me? I looked like an absolute idiot.
Every other girl would be wearing a dress, including Alex probably. My black blazer made it look like I was drowning in my dress shirt, and I probably looked like a ten year old with makeup on. I was supposed to pick up Alex at 7 but I knew I would be late.
I wanted the night to be special but I knew I would most likely ruin it somehow.
"Hun, you look great, don't be nervous!" my mother exclaimed, grabbing my shoulders. I flinched and turned away from the mirror to look at her. "Thanks, mom," I said, giving her a hug. My mom handed me the bouquet of flowers for Alex, along with the corsage I bought her. I felt the butterflies in my stomach as I opened the door, walking out to my car. I watched as my mom waved goodbye and I got into the car, pulling out of the driveway. I took in a deep breath and put in my favorite CD as I tried to calm my nerves.
I tried to picture what the night would look like in my mind. I wondered what Alex would be wearing, and how beautiful she was going to look. She told her parents about us the night before and I was hoping all had gone well. She hadn't called me or texted me anything worrying, so I assumed everything had turned out alright.
I got out of my car, the flowers and corsage in hand. I walked slowly up to her door and hesitated before ringing the doorbell, trying to calm my buzzing nerves. I waited for a minute before I saw a silhouette through the window in the door.
I straightened out my blazer and pants before making sure my hair was looking nice and everything was presentable. A woman with dirty blond hair opened the front door and looked me up and down. "Hello, Lynn. You look nice," she smiled, gesturing for me to come in. I gave her a nod and walked inside, looking around. I heard voices coming from the kitchen and it sounded like Alex and her father were fighting. My smile dropped and I wondered what was wrong.
"I don't understand why you decided to live like this! What did a boy ever do to you to make you like girls?" her father exclaimed in a harsh whisper, looking angry. "It's not a choice! No boy ever did anything to me. What did a boy ever do to you to make you like girls, huh?" Alex growled, looking as if she was on the brink of tears.
"Get out of my face," her dad spat, rushing past her and into the hallway. Alex sighed and covered her eyes before turning around, realizing I was right behind her. "Fuck," she sighed, resting her forehead against my chest.
"You look amazing," I whispered, causing her to pull away and blush, shaking her head. She was wearing a long tan colored sleeveless dress with a bit of lace over it. Her dark brown, almost black hair was tucked behind her ears, and her lips were a pale pink color. "That's you," she denied, taking my hand in hers. She took a corsage off the counter and put it on my wrist, smiling after she did so. "Hey, I got one for you too," I announced, putting hers on for her. I took out the bouquet from hiding behind my back and handed it to her, causing her to grin.
"Come on, ladies! I want to get pictures before you leave!" her mom exclaimed, waving us into the living room. Alex grabbed my hand in hers, pulling me in front of the couch.
I stayed silent as her mother instructed us on what to do for each photo before finally letting us go. Alex hugged her mom quickly before saying goodbye, following me out to my car. The sun was started to set and I admired the sliver of light shining against her pale skin as she hopped into the passenger seat.
I pulled out of the driveway and glanced at Alex as she reached her arm out of the window, feeling the wind as I drove down the street. We were silent for the whole ride there until the school came into view and we saw all of the people outside of the gym, taking pictures and laughing. My heart started beating faster and faster and I felt a hand on my knee. I smiled at her as I parked quickly, getting out. I opened her door and helped her out, shoving my phone in my pocket. I took her hand in mine as we walked onto the curb, surrounding ourselves with other students.
"Guys! You're here!" I heard Dane exclaimed, jogging toward us. A blue haired girl with bright red lips trailed behind him, grinning. "This is Sam, Alexa's sister. She's my date," he introduced us. Alex's mouth dropped open. "Dane, you didn't tell me you had a date!" she exclaimed, punching his shoulder. He was wearing an all black suit. Sam had on a short silver dress, her hair curled perfectly.
"I know, I know! I wanted it to be a surprise. Sam, this is Alex and Lynn," Dane said, gesturing toward both Lynn and I. "Hey, it's so nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about both of you. Dane is always talking about you guys, especially you Alex," Sam said, putting on another big smile before looking up at Dane who looked embarrassed.
Lynn wrapped her arm around my waist. "Do you guys mind if I take some pictures?" Sam wondered, leaning over to grab a nice camera off the bench. "Sure, go ahead," Lynn agreed, giving her a smile. "Sam is really into photography. She's got a really great talent," Dane explained, watching as she snapped several photos of Lynn and I.
"Perfect. I can send these to you guys if you'd like," She offered, putting her camera away. "Yeah, we'd love that. Thank you," Alex replied, grinning. She looked so happy and I was glad. I was glad that she was content for just a moment because all the pain she was feeling wasn't what she deserved.
I pecked her cheek and she turned toward me, kissing me on the lips. "You guys are so cute," Sam stated, moving a piece of hair out of her eyes. I just smiled at her and looked over to Alex. "Are you ready to go inside?"
She nodded and I pulled her along, Dane and Sam trailing along behind us. They were chatting about something I didn't understand, and I could feel Alex's hand shake a bit. I squeezed her hand a little tighter to reassure her that everything would be fine. When we got to the door, we gave our tickets to one of the chaperones before they let us in. The music caused the ground to shake and I watched Alex as she gazed around with wide eyes.
I decided that I was going to do anything to keep her.
This has taken me forever rip.
