October 2013
"Camila, ¿tienes todo ya listo para irnos?" My mother asks me.
"Si, todo listo." I respond.
"Vámonos entonces, antes de que se nos haga tarde." She says like the typical Hispanic parent that wants to arrive to the airport as early as possible.
Today my mom and I are leaving Los Angeles to go to Puerto Rico. It's not that I'm visiting family there, my family is actually from Mexico, but I have a photoshoot. I do a little modeling and acting here and there. When you're from Los Angeles, there's a lot of those kinds of opportunities if you're lucky enough and well I've gotten lucky.
Sobre mi vida... ¿pues que te diré? Soy una chica muy sencilla, just a normal girl like the others. I also tend to switch between English and Spanish a lot, I think it's great.
I say my goodbyes to my older brother Gerardo and older sister Emily who happen to be twins. This makes me the youngest out of the three. My dad drives my mom and I to the airport, I've never been to Puerto Rico so I wonder how it will be. I heard it's absolutely beautiful and I'm mostly excited to visit a new place.
I can't help but to admire Puerto Rico as soon as I step out of the Isla Verde International Airport in San Juan.
By eight o' clock at night, I fully prepare myself for the next day. After brushing my teeth and washing and moisturizing my face in the hotel's bathroom, I go straight to bed.
"Descansa, mi niña." My sweet mother says to me while in the bed next to mine.
"Goodnight, mom." Is the last thing I say before I drift off to sleep.
The next day I meet with a photographer in a studio for the photoshoot alongside a few other kids my age. I'm glad that I went to bed early because if not I would've been exhausted.
"Hola, mi nombre es Camila Casillas." I introduce myself to the photographer, the set, and the group of teens my age that are a part of this as well.
The photos I'm being taken are for a magazine from here. I also have to promote a local clothing line. I'm done with the photoshoot at two in the afternoon and I now want to do something fun. I won't be here forever so I have to take advantage that I'm here.
"Vamos a la playa, ándale mami." I beg her.
"Está bien, hay que aprovechar esta hermosa isla." She smiles at me.
"Vamos al hotel para agarrar lo que necesitamos." I say.
I decide to put on a strapless bikini with high-waisted denim shorts. I pack my sunblock and sunglasses and head to the beach. Although it's October, the weather is still perfect. By the time I'm at the beach, I kind of feel lonely because there is a lot of people in groups and I'm just here with my mom. But at the same time I don't know anyone here so why would I care if I look lonely.
I'm taking pictures on my phone near the water when a group of teenagers approach me.
"¿Quieres jugar con nosotros?" A girl nicely asks me. She must've seen how lonely I was and I appreciate her for inviting me to join them.
"Claro que sí." I smile.
The group of teens praise me as I serve the ball. I'm having so much fun, why did I think it would be awkward? As I'm serving the ball again, I hit it wrong and it goes out of bounds. To my bad luck, it hits someone.
"¡Perdóname!" I apologize in embarrassment.
"No te preo-" The boy stops in mid sentence.
"¿Esta bien? ¿Por que terminaste de hablar?" I ask him. Did I cause him that much pain? "Ay, no, te lastime. Perdóname, por favor, fue de accidente."
"Disculpa, tus ojos me distrajeron. Son muy bonitos y grandes." He says to me.
"Gracias... Aquí te dejo, te pido disculpas otra vez." I awkwardly say. "Adios."
"¿Te digo algo? Te perdono si te quedas conmigo a janguear." The boy says with confidence.
"Disculpa, ¿què es janguear?" I ask him confused.
He laughs. "Por tu accentó se que no eres boricua, janguear es como pasar tiempo juntos. Como hang out, you know?"
"Soló para que me perdones. Me voy a despidir de mis nuevos amigos y luego jangueamos." I smile and he smiles back.
I had a nice time playing volleyball with these people but I'll hang out with this cute stranger. My mother left to the hotel half an hour ago which happens to be right in front of this beach and she said to have fun and not stay out so late.
This stranger is actually very handsome, he looks about my age. He has light brown hair, small but cute brown eyes, is tall, and has a very beautiful smile that causes a dimple to pop out.
The handsome boy asks me.
"Camila." I respond. "¿Y tú?"
"Zabdiel." He replies.
✨✨✨
Where are all of my Zabdiel girls at? I'm so sad that La Banda came to an end just last Sunday :( The show was so so much fun to watch. I love all of the boys so much and wish CNCO an excellent career.
Let me know what you think by commenting and voting. Thank you!
UPDATE: After almost two years I came back to do some editing cause I used to write kind of cringy.
