Background Story: María was born in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico during the Spanish War of Independence. Her mother had an affair with one of the lords of the underworld, Xibalba in exchange for eternal wealth and luxury. But not long before María was born, Santa Muerte abandons her former lover and as punishment, he curses María to be a vessel for the tortured sells of the dead to walk the Earth again each Day of the Dead. To save her, she sought the aid of Quetzalcoatl to rid her of her curse. He deduces that curse is temporary and will only be lifted after she matures. María became a sister of Si Sigma Alpha and a henchman of Yngvild. But after befriending Azur, she questions her own loyalty to Yngvild and soon turns against her. She even used to date a fellow Day of the Dead skeleton boy, Alejandro.
