Background Story: Allen was born in pre-Civil War Wyoming to a young woman who loved looking into a mirror to observe her beauty. She meet the ghost of painter Daniel Robitaille who fell in love with her. He was so smitten with her, that he painted portraits of her. She loved the paintings, but didn't return his affections. Robitaille became heartbroken by her sense of vanity and became violent. He shatters all of the mirrors in her house with his hook hand to teach her a lesson. The woman, now shocked by the revelation, admits her selfishness and opens up to him. He then disappeared leaving her alone. She called out "Candyman!" three times for him to return and he did and made love to her. But after the second night of lovemaking, he vanishes again and never returns to her. She gives birth to Allen and is left to raise him in a stagecoach lodge in the chilly north. He fought for the Union in the American Civil War and became a U.S. Cabinet member under Abraham Lincoln, his childhood friend.
