Martina's POV
I was nervous, I won't lie, but Lana always had a way of calming me down. It was her attitude, she didn't care what other people thought of her, she was who she was and if you didn't like it well too bad. But honestly who didn't like Lana, she was a fiercely loyal friend with a good heart and we all loved and appreciated her, even if we didn't always show it.
I watched Lana greet Matt and Courtney and I stood back and watched. Lana and Matt had been best friends since they were seven years old, inseperable all through school, inseperable still, they were basically the same as each other and it always amused me to watch them. They spoke the same way, they had the same mannerisms and I guessed it was from the fact that they spent nearly every minute with each other. Well used to spend every minute together, that was until Courtney came on the scene. Her and Matt had been together for about a year, I tried to like her, I really did, there was just something about her. I never told Lana how I felt because I knew she'd tell Matt, she was so fiercely loyal to him that she would feel obliged to tell him. Lana and Matt had no secrets and I hoped Courtney never came between them, I'd hate to see their friendship end. So far Courtney seemed tolerant of Lana but I'd guess we'd see eventually.
I looked around, smiling and waving at a few of the other's, deciding who I should talk to, when I saw him. Brian. I felt my heart jump into my throat. Just the sight of him made my heart flutter still, but lately, something had changed.
I'd missed him terribly while they'd been on tour and I, unlike Courtney, liked to work, I enjoyed my job and it wasn't something I was willing to give up, but it also meant that when it came to tours I couldn't always go. Some times I was able to catch up with him on certain legs, but not this time, this time I couldn't go at all. Normally it wasn't an issue, me not going, only this time, this time when he'd come home, he seemed different, different towards me, almost uninterested and I couldn't help but think that maybe he'd met someone else and that thought scared the fuck out of me. I wasn't sure what I'd do without Brian, it was an idea I didn't like to entertain.
"Helloooo." Lana said, waving her hand in front of my face.
I looked at her and she was standing there with a beer in her hand. "I thought you weren't drinking?" I asked her.
"I'm not." She said quietly, looking around.
"Well Lana." I said. "What do you call that?" I pointed to her beer.
"I'm not drinking it Marty." She whispered. "I'm just holding it so it looks like I'm drinking it." And I couldn't help but laugh at her.
"Nice."
"So why are you standing here and not talking to Brian?" She asked. Typical Lana, no bullshit involved.
I shrugged. "I was just heading over to him." But that was a lie, I wasn't going over to him at all.
"Oh well." She said glancing over her shoulder. "He's coming to you anyway." And I followed her gaze, she was right, Brian was heading over here. "Well I might go say hi to Zack." Lana added, walking off.
I mentally scolded her while watching Brian approach and trying to appear casual.
"You're late." He said, approaching me, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah well you know what Lana's like." I told him and he nodded.
"Come and get a drink." He said, reaching out and taking my hand and I let him lead me over to the bar area. "What do you want?" He asked softly, smiling. "Beer?" And I nodded, letting him get me one. He took my hand again and led me over to a seat, sitting down.
I looked around, everyone was drinking, talking, Matt and Lana were dicking around, the other's standing in little groups.
"How are you?" He asked me and I looked at him. To me he's never changed, he still looked like the guy I started dating when I was sixteen and he still made my heart race, just looking at him.
"How are you, are you all settled back in at home?" I asked.
"Well Marty." He said, leaning over towards me. "If you dropped by you would know."
He was looking at me strangely and I wanted to object, tell him that the reason I hadn't been around was because he hadn't asked me, he acted like he didn't want me around, but before I could say anything, Matt interrupted us.
"Everyone." He said loudly. "Gather around, I have something to tell you."
I looked at Brian and he shrugged, taking my hand and walking closer to where Matt was standing. I looked around, noticing everybody was wearing the same look as me, wondering what was going on.
"So, I just wanted to let you all know." Matt started. "That I proposed to Courtney last week and she said yes."
Holy fuck, they were getting married. I was shocked, completely shocked.
I heard Brian sigh loudly and drop my hand, walking over to Matt, congratulating him and Courtney and I felt a little pissed. I knew what he was thinking, he was thinking 'Now Marty will expect it', except I didn't, I didn't expect marriage at all. Marriage had never really crossed my mind, I was happy, content with Brian, I didn't need marriage to complete us, I just wish he knew that.
I headed over, congratulating Matt and Courtney, I mean it was nice that they were getting married, they obviously loved each other and I was happy for them, even if it didn't look like I was.
I smiled, trying to look happy but thoughts of my own relationship were consuming me. It was ending and I just didn't think I could deal with that.
