Matt's POV
"So." Brian said placing a beer in front of me. "How are things going?"
"Good." I told him, picking my beer up and taking a mouthful.
"How's the house and the whole living together thing going?" He asked smiling. "You ready to move out yet?"
I looked at him and shook my head. "Don't be stupid." I told him. "We've finally finished unpacking and we're all settled in."
"Good." He said. "And Lana, you two getting on okay?"
I smiled. "Yeah we are." And we were. Living together was turning out to be the best decision I'd ever made.
We'd settled in nicely. I guess it had something to do with being friends for so long, but living together was great, I loved every minute of it and I was pretty sure Lana was glad we'd decided to as well. We'd had a few little arguments, nothing major and the last week Lana had been a little moody, but that was okay, I could live with moody Lana.
"Great news." Brian said, drinking his beer. "Marty's making me look at houses in the area, she told me if I want a baby I needed to find a better neighbourhood."
"You guy's are thinking about having kids?" I never knew, he'd never mentioned it before.
He shrugged. "Maybe, we're discussing it."
I nodded, taking a drink, I mean they were married, I guess kids were a natural progression.
"So when are you going to start?" I asked him, curious.
"Apparently not until I have Marty in a nicer house." He said. "But yeah, I like the idea of having kids Matt, I really want one."
I nodded. "You'd be great parents." And we both burst out laughing trying to picture it.
"Yeah right." He said. "So anyway, nothing from Courtney?"
I shook my head. "Nope thank god." I told him. "Although I did see her a few weeks ago, basically said hi, that was it, I don't know, she gave me a creepy feeling and I kind of keep waiting for her to reappear and cause some drama."
I'd ran into her when I was playing golf of all places and I had a weird feeling she was following me. I'd only said hi but she'd tried to engage me in conversation and I brushed her off and I like I told Brian, I really was waiting for her reappear and try to start causing more trouble.
"Are you serious?" He asked. "She's still hanging around?"
"She is."
"Damn, I thought her parents were going to get her help?" He asked me and I shrugged. I thought they were going to help her too, but there she was, at my golf course.
"I thought so too, but yeah." I mumbled, draining my glass. "As long as she stays away from us, I don't care what she does."
"Hopefully she will." He said. "Want another one?" He asked indicating to my empty bottle.
"One more, then I might go home."
"What?" He said standing up. "It's Tuesday Matt, the day we're actually allowed to hang out."
I laughed, the way he said, allowed to hang out, like the girls didn't let us do anything. That wasn't the case, it was just Tuesdays was a day I chose to play golf and have a few beers, Lana didn't mind, not that she'd ever tell me I couldn't go anywhere anyway.
"Yeah I know." I said. "But I might just go home, spend the night with Lana, do something maybe."
Lately, what with the moving, the settling in and her working, we hadn't spent a lot of time together and I liked being with Lana, just me and her, actually if given a choice, I'd pick Lana over everything.
"Fucking sook." He mumbled.
"I haven't seen much of her okay." I said shaking my head. "She's been working."
"Tell her to quit." He said, walking over and ordering another couple of beers.
Easier said than done. Somehow I didn't think Lana would appreciate me asking her to give up work. I was happy to support her, but that just wasn't Lana, she liked to be independent.
We sat there talking a little more, mainly about the girls, the girls always dominated our conversation. I felt comfortable discussing Lana with Brian, well because I knew he felt the same about Marty. He knew where I was coming from, he knew what it was like to have a woman that you would do anything for, and a woman who was your world. Sometimes I surprised myself, with the way I felt about Lana and I remembered thinking I was in love with Courtney, but that was nothing like this, no where near it, nothing like I felt for Lana.
"So you're not going to pull out of next Tuesday I hope?" Brian asked as we were leaving.
"I can't promise anything." I told him smiling.
"Fuck Matt." He muttered, turning and heading to his car.
I wandered to my car and got in, heading home, thinking about what we could do tonight. Maybe have dinner and just lay around watching movies, that was kind of my favourite thing to do with Lana, well second favourite thing.
I pulled up home, parking the car in the garage and letting myself in. The house was quiet but I knew Lana was home, her car was here.
I walked into the bedroom and listened. I could hear her in the bathroom and she sounded like she was crying, again. I'd thought I'd heard her crying the other night too, but it was Lana and I knew if I asked her about it she would make a big deal out of it, so for now I was letting it go, but damn, something must have been bothering her and I just wished she'd tell me.
"Hey." I said knocking on the door and opening it.
She quickly wiped her face and looked at me. She was standing there in a towel. She'd obviously just been standing there crying.
"Oh hey." She said smiling. "Did you forget something?"
"Nope." I said walking over to her. "I thought we might do something tonight."
"But it's Tuesday." She mumbled and her eye's darted around the room.
"So." I murmured, pulling her into my arms. "Is there some rule that says I can't hang out with you on a Tuesday?"
She frowned. "Well no." And I cut her off, kissing her softly. "But." She said, putting her hands on my chest. "Work called, they need someone for the ER this afternoon and well because I thought you would be out, I agreed to go in and do the shift."
I groaned. Fuck. "Seriously?"
"Well yeah." She said looking upset. "Sorry."
Just great, now Lana was going into work and I had nothing to do.
"It's fine." I muttered. Only it wasn't. I hated her working, so much.
I watched her walk into the bedroom and pull a set of scrubs out of the closet, getting dressed. I wanted to go in there and tell her not to go, but I knew she wouldn't listen anyway.
"It's okay." I murmured, walking into the bedroom and sitting on the bed. "We can do something tomorrow I guess."
She smiled and nodded, pulling her hair back into a pony tail. God she looked so beautiful, even in her scrubs. "We can."
I followed her out into the living room, where she grabbed a backpack and her car keys.
"I guess I'll see you in the morning." She said softly. "I finish at midnight, so you'll probably be asleep."
I nodded. Midnight. Great.
"Maybe you should go out." She added. "Or something." And once again her eye's darted around the room.
"Nope." I said pulling her to me. "I'll stay here, wait up for you." And I brushed her cheek softly, smiling.
"Okay." She whispered and I kissed her, really kissed her, long and hard.
"See you when you get home beautiful." I murmured against her lips and then I watched her walk down the path to her car.
I closed the door, looking around. I would order in, watch movies, wait up and think. I knew I would be doing some thinking. Something was bothering Lana, I only wish I knew what it was.
