"Guess it's my turn" Tyler said as they both faced the blackness of the living room
Troye glanced at Tyler before looking down at his own lap to twist his fingers "You don't have too its okay, I understand" Troye said "but I want to help you too so I'll always listen if not tonight than tomorrow or the next day or two months from now" he said looking at Tyler sincerely
"Thank you Troye" Tyler said as now he felt tears bubbling up in his eyes. Troye frowned and sat up to sit criss cross facing Tyler. Troye took Tyler's chin in his hand and looked at his eyes with a soft pleading smile "Don't cry" he whispered as he wiped the stray tears that fell from Tyler's eyes
Tyler squeezed his eyes shut and his bottom lip began to quiver as Troye healed his chin. "I'm so fucked up Troye" Tyler breathed out
"Please don't say that" Troye said ignoring the way his own voice cracked slightly. Tyler opened his eyes and looked at Troye. "I think you're pretty great" Troye said in a softer tone
Tyler pulled out of Troye's grasp and leaned back against the couch again. "I just feel broken" Tyler said into the darkness.
Troye looked over the boy sitting next to him, Tyler was just as fragile as he himself was. Tyler sat to his right with his eyes closed and he forehead rested on his knees which were drawn to his chest. Troye waited a moment before getting up to go into his bedroom. Tyler stayed in the living room and didn't say anything as he felt Troye get up from his position next to him.
Troye dug quickly in the top draw of his dresser until his hand finally landed on the small purple velvet box in the corner. Troye smiled and pulled the small ziplock bag out of the box before placing the velvet box on top of the dresser and going back to Tyler's slumped figure. Troye slid back down next to Tyler, closer than last time as the sides of their body's pressed into one another.
Tyler didn't say anything as he felt Troye reaching around to put something on his neck. Tyler finally opened his eyes when he felt something small and metal drop onto his chest. Tyler looked down to observe the small chain that now sat around his neck. On the chain there was a small sliver wing and was cold against Tyler's skin. Tyler gave Troye a questioning look "What is this?"
Troye smiled "My sister, Sage, she gave it to me when I left. I always called her an angel, she wanted me to borrow her wings so mine could open. So now I want you to borrow mine so yours can open too"
Tyler looked at Troye and tilted his head "Don't you want to keep this, its special. Its from Sage, you shouldn't give it away"
"You're just as special" Troye said as he rested his head on Tyler's shoulder "And you don't aways have to be strong Tyler and the necklace is there to remind you that I'm here and I want to help you"
"Do you miss them" Tyler said changing the subject
"Sometimes" Troye responded "missing someone is like the happiest sad you can feel, because its love, like it's sadness but only because there's love there"
Tyler smiled and placed his hand on Troye's leg "Who would have known we were such sappy messes" he giggled slightly
Troye giggled in agreement and shifted his weight to lean against Tyler as they both closed their eyes
——
Tyler woke up shocked to see a tuff of hazel curls next to his face. He sat wide eyed until he remembered what happened last night. In that moment he looked down again at the scars along Troye's arms. He softly ran his thumb over the lower half of Troye's arms just like he did last night. Tyler tried to shift a bit and was immediately hit with soreness in is lower back and neck. He groaned in realization that he and Troye had fallen asleep leaning against the couch. Suddenly Troye began to stir and Troye lifted his head off of Tyler.
"Owww" Troye said in a low raspy voice still heavy with sleep. "I agree" Tyler said with a short half laugh. He watched as Troye rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand before stretching his arms up and yawning. Tyler admired the boy next to him, soaking in Troye's unadulterated cuteness.
Troye curled up again leaning into Tyler's side and Tyler laid his hand on Troyes back rubbing in soft circles. "Troye come on we have to wake up" Tyler cooed. Troye let out a low grumble and burrowed further into the warmth of Tyler's hoodie. Tyler giggled and moved his hands to Troyes sides and started to wiggle his fingers quickly as Troye started to squirm under his touch.
"Stoooop" Troye wined and Tyler sat up causing Troye to fall softly to the ground as Tyler continued to tickle him. Tyler couldn't help but cackle as Troye tried to call out his name but couldn't because he was laughing so hard "T-T-Til-Till-TILLY" Troye called out between breaths of laughter
Tyler stopped and looked down at Troye with a wide grin on his face "Tilly, I like it" he said to Troye with a giggle. Troye sat up still breathing heavily. Troye turned his face quickly to Tyler with a pout "Don't you know not to wake up a prince, I need my beauty sleep" Troye watched as Tyler rolled his eyes and pushed his shoulder lightly
"Okay Jewish prince, I'll remember that when you sleep over for Christmas" Tyler said moving to get up off the ground
Troye's smile faltered and he softly bit the inside of his cheek. He didn't want to turn Tyler down but he also didn't want to see how happy a family could be when they were all together. Troye had become accustomed to living his lonely life. He woke himself up, he walked to school, he walked to work, he walked home, he surfed tumblr, and he went to sleep. Alone. He panicked at the idea of becoming attached to Tyler. Tyler was like a sickening addiction and if Troye got hooked, then when Tyler inevitably left, Troye wouldn't survive. Troye's life was a desert and Tyler was water in the distance, Troye wasn't sure if Tyler was real or if this was all a mirage.
"theres that look again" Tyler said as he smiled at Troye "watcha thinking about Troyeboy" Tyler said with a questioning gaze.
"I don't know" Troye said softly looking up at Tyler as he stood over Troye who was still sitting on the floor. Tyler offered his hand out to Troye and slowly pulled Troye off the ground. Tyler stubbled back a bit and Troye pulled on Tyler's hand to steady Tyler so he didn't fall.
"Careful there Tilly" Troye said with a soft smile before he moved away from Tyler and heading into the kitchen. Tyler stood in the living room with a light blush across his cheeks from Troye using his new nickname. Troye popped his head back out of the kitchen and smiled widely at Tyler
"So what do you want for breakfast" Troye asked from inside the kitchen "I have nutella and toast, or avocado and toast, or cereal and if you are feeling extra adventurous I can cook you pancak-" he reappeared again with a loaf of bread in his hand "where are you going" he asked as he saw Tyler gathering his things
"I uh I have to go, my step dad has been texting me. I kinda just left last night so I have to go explain were I was" Tyler said avoiding looking up at Troye as he slipped his slippers back on
"Oh okay" Troye said a little bit upset that Tyler was leaving so soon "Do you want some breakfast for the road, its like 10 o'clock you mus-"
"Stop Troye" Tyler said as he looked down at his phone again "I'll be fine, I see you Thursday at like 4ish to pick you up, get read for a crazy Oakley christmas" he said and Troye flashed him a fake smile to attempt to assure Tyler
Troye stood in the middle of his living room as Tyler turned with a quick bye and walked out of the apartment, closing the door behind him. Once again Troye was left in alone feeling everything but nothing at the same time.
