Troye stood on the balcony of his 3rd floor apartment, over looking the suburban neighborhood he lived in. The streets were dark and quiet. His face was cold from the crisp air hitting his damp cheeks, he calmed down quite a bit in the past hour, it was 1am and he stood gripping the railing as his eyes looked over the city. He picked up his cup of tea, it was warm when he placed it there but now it was chilly like the air. He left everything else inside, including his jacket, which he now regretted because he was kinda cold. He was cold by he couldn't bring himself to move from where he was standing.

Troye was too busy thinking to worry about moving. He was thinking about how nice it would be to be free, how nice it would be to rest and not have a care in the world. How nice it would be to leave this place and just travel and be done with school and people. How nice it would to just live and not having to worry about his responsibilities.

The only thing in his way was reality. His need to work for money, and his heart stopping anxiety. His abandonment by his family, his draw towards Tyler. His need to finish school and all that other stupid shit. Sadly picking up and leaving wasn't an option he was stuck here with reality, and life has no stop pause or undo button. Still Troye pondered the 'what if's'

Like what if he got on a plane a flew some place far away and started over again? He did it once, what was stopping him now. What if he never came out to his family, would he still be living happily in Perth? No, he wouldn't he would feel trapped. What if he never had that melt down? Would him and Tyler even be friends? He hopped so, Tyler was the only good thing that came from Troye's anxiety. The only good thing.

He pushed away the only good thing that came from his anxiety, he just slammed his computer shut on the only good thing. And now Troye probably sent Tyler into a panic, Tyler was probably freaking out in his room, and lord knows that Tyler wouldn't ask for help. What if there was something wrong and now Tyler didn't tell him?

Troye moved off the balcony and grabbed his phone off his bed, 5 text messages and 12 missed calls from Tyler. Troye opened the messages all asking Troye to call Tyler back because he was worried. Troye began to worry himself, what if Tyler blamed himself. Troye didn't mean to miss all those calls he was just distracted. His heart started beating faster, remembering what happened the last time he missed several of Tyler's texts and calls.

Troye slipped on his converse and put his navy blue jacket on over his jumper, heading straight out his apartment door.

——

Mom,

I had to go check on Troye, we got in a small argument and I needed to go make sure that he was alright. He's not answering the phone or Skype so I needed to go to him. I'll be home as soon as I can.

Love,

Tyler

Tyler scribbled the words to his mother as fast as he could on a slip of paper and left it on the counter. He followed Allexys back up the stairs and tucked her back in the bottom bunk, careful not to wake Penelope on the top bunk. He promptly turned and walked out of the the bedroom. He grabbed his jacket and headed out the door.

He started his car and pulled out of the drive way. His mind was racing like a horse that was escaping. He couldn't stop thinking about Troye and if he was okay. Tyler squeezed his eyes closed as he sat a a red light. What was he even going to say to Troye? How was he going to make this go away? Tyler silently cursed that they were both so bad with words.

Tyler looked at the clock, it was 2:15am. What if Troye actually did fall asleep and Tyler showed up, used the extra key and scared the crap out of him. What if he showed up and Troye didn't want him there and told him to leave. Suddenly a figure appeared on the sidewalk, Tyler rolled his eyes, why the hell was some idiot walking in the cold at 2:15 in the morning. Tyler didn't think much about it, his thoughts returning to Troye and all the ways this interaction could go wrong.

A few overthought minutes later Tyler pulled into Troye's apartment building and parked in his usual spot. 'This is a bad idea' Tyler thought 'he's mad I should give him some space' Tyler shook his head, he drove all the way here, he was going inside.

He climbed out of the car and locked it behind him, everything was going to be fine it was just a fight. Tyler didn't have to tell him anything he was ready to tell him. No matter how much he wanted to, maybe he just needed a little bit more time. Tyler walked up the stairs quickly scurrying down to Troye's apartment and knocking on the door.

Tyler knocked three times before giving up and going down the hall to the public restroom. He reached behind one of the mirrors to retrieve the hidden key that Troye had told him about.

Tyler returned and knocked again, maybe Troye was sleeping, Tyler pushed the key in the lock. As he expected the living room was empty, Tyler took his shoes off and placed his wallet and key on the table. He took his jacket off and walked into the bedroom, but that too was empty. Tyler started to panic, his heartbeat more rapid. There the fuck was Troye. Thats when Tyler noticed that the balcony door was open.
