You're So Intoxicating
☆☆☆
So this is how it feels like being blind.
It's empty. Dark. There's nothing.
Whenever you walk, you feel like falling down, not knowing what's in front of you. You feel like you're gonna hit something. You feel like you're gonna feel pain.
Still closing my eyes, I let Mare take my hand while we're walking along the corridor until we stop at the front door of our class. Or so I think.
"There's a step. A small step," she says.
I can hear nothing. Seems like there's no one in class.
Walking through the door, I know we're inside of the class. Mare leads me to, I assume, our table.
"There's Tyler in front of you."
The moment Mare says that, I come to a halt. I let out a small scream when Mare lets go of my wrist.
My hands dangle in the air, feeling nothing in front of me. I refuse to open my eyes until I sit down at my place.
"Mare. Mare! Don't leave me. I'm blind still!"
I can hear Mare chuckle.
"Just walk to the front. Tyler's still far away from you."
I take three small hesitant steps.
"What are you doing?" Tyler asks, his voice laced with amusement.
"Shut up," I hiss.
Then I hear his footsteps coming closer. I don't dare moving my feet any further for I might crash into him.
"Just keep on walking. You're almost at your place over here."
Somehow his voice sounds deeper and louder. Is it because he's near? In front of me? Behind me? Beside me? Where is he?
Mare speaks, "Keep on walking. Or you can just open your eyes and give up."
I shake my head vigorously. "I won't! It's a matter of pride and discipline."
"Just walk and-"
Before Tyler can even finish his sentence, I already step forward when suddenly I hit something in front of me.
Opening my eyes instantly while trying to catch my balance, my hands grab Tyler's broad shoulders and his hands grab my waist. Half of my weight is pressed upon him as he steps backward and tries to regain his balance so we won't fall. His back hits the table behind him and we come to a standstill, my body pressed up against his.
His nose touching mine.
His hands around my waist.
Perks of having almost the same height.
My breath gets caught in my throat at the sudden event that just unfolds. Also, the proximity between us doesn't help at all. My heart picks up its pace and beats faster than usual.
Most importantly, his cologne never fails to intoxicate me every single time. Now that we're standing - more like I'm leaning against him - so close, I can breathe in his lingering scent that somehow makes me dizzy in a good way.
It makes me forget everything else and the only thing that remains is him with his scent.
"You're so intoxicating," I absent-mindedly whisper.
In the process of thinking so, unconciously my lips part, my face tilting to the side to lean more into his face, trying to breathe in his familiar scent.
I come back into reality when Tyler gasps so slightly I might not hear it if I'm not this close to him.
