Mayn
☆☆☆
When Mayn was twelve, she was in a relationship with a boy she thought she had feelings for. The only problem was another boy came into the picture and always annoyed the hell out of her.
It's like a popular belief or common sense that when a guy keeps teasing and annoying a girl, he actually wants her attention.
However, despite being used to having him around, Mayn didn't let the thought get to her head. Later Mayn and her boyfriend broke up.
When Mayn was thirteen, she and the boy who once annoyed her were in the same class for the year. Being that they could only rely on each other as they didn't have any other close friends, they became closer than they ever were before.
He asked her out one day but she dismissed it as another joke of his. They were best friends, ain't they? She was shocked to find out that he was actually being serious. Later they dated officially and their relationship began. Little did she know he would be the death of her.
When Mayn was fourteen, she and her current boyfriend weren't in the same class for the year. That didn't stop him from coming over to her class to check on her or hang out with her on his free time.
Their relationship was like a ship on the sea. Sometimes it faced the clear blue water and the serene wind. Sometimes it faced the crashing waves and struggled not to sink.
Mayn was already used to his overprotective trait and jealousy. He never liked the idea of Mayn being somewhere close to those who he felt were a threat to him.
When Mayn was fifteen, she stayed with him still. She couldn't deny the fact that she loved him just as much as he did her, if not more. Yet they faced the same problem over and over again.
Her boyfriend might've been a little too possessive that it felt claustrophobic for her when he was around. She was her own person too and she didn't want to constantly argue about the same old thing.
She wasn't just his. She belonged to herself too. She loved him, yes, enough to let him go. She didn't want to be in a relationship where they couldn't trust each other and kept having doubts. Later they broke up.
When Mayn was sixteen, she got to get to know a boy who happened to be his ex boyfriend's classmate. First impressions might not matter but she would always remember how she could see a matured side of him, the intelligence he showed through the way he spoke, and bonus points for his look that meant handsome to her.
They became close friends quickly. It's like meeting someone for the first time and you know it just clicks. She felt that way with him. She felt like they shared the same way of thinking. She even told him everything including her past relationship.
Pick up lines jokes turned disastrous when she somehow realized that she was actually falling for him. She knew she was screwed but it didn't help that soon she figured out that he also felt quite the same way towards her.
The only thing that kept them apart was his mother. A mother who didn't want to see his son getting distracted by a girl, causing him to drop his excellent grades. It was sad, really, to think they were almost lovers.
However, Mayn's ex boyfriend soon found out that the one she currently liked was the very person he shared his relationship problems with. Never thought he could feel any more betrayed than right now.
He told her that she took him for granted and that she would never find someone like him who would love her as much as he did. Honestly, she didn't know what to make of that.
When Mayn was seventeen, she remained single and maybe that was what was best for her. Being in a relationship and getting distracted by boys had really exhausted her. She still talked to the both of the boys on a few occasions but that was it.
Hell, even to this day Mayn couldn't deny that her feelings for her ex boyfriend never died. Maybe they were too young to work it out. Maybe she met the right person at the wrong time.
No matter what, she wouldn't lie to her own self. She still had feelings for her ex boyfriend and kept his shirt close to her every night.
Did she regret it? Would she?
Mayn shook her head no, defeated. How could she regret one of the best times of her life? Though, if she could turn back time, she wished she would've been more appreciative. She wished she didn't take him for granted.
As much as she didn't want to admit it, in his own screwed up way, he was right. She did take him for granted. Perhaps she wouldn't find someone else who would love her the way he did. Perhaps someone like him existed once in a lifetime.
But how could she have known? They were both young and so in love. Both made mistakes and both were trouble. They were perfect as much as they were toxic for each other. He made continuous mistakes. She didn't fight for them enough. Both were too young to handle this mad, mad world.
People come into your life for a reason. Either they're gonna change your world, or you're gonna change theirs. They're either a blessing or a lesson.
Mayn believed he was a little bit of both. He was a great blessing in her life yet he was also a lesson for her to learn.
Maybe one day when love knocked on her door, she would be ready to welcome it in and appreciate it more.
