Of all the times we've hung out together, today was the day it happened.
We were in the dark karaoke room and you were sitting next to me, both of us facing the screen in front of us.
Our friends were singing Payphone by Maroon 5 and we enjoyed the loud music.
Then it happened.
Out of the blue you were leaning in to speak in my ear about something. It was a reflex; I turned immediately to face you and all I saw was your face so close to mine, just inches away.
I think I did respond to what you said but now that I think of it, I can't seem to remember what it was that I said. I don't remember what we were talking about.
All I remember is I turned rigid at the proximity between us. I faced forward and my heart was pounding against my chest, matching the rhythm of Payphone at that moment.
You were so close yet so, so far.
