Y/N'S POV
My life was basically like every other teenager living in Gotham City. There were many differences, but mostly because I did not grow up like everyone else did. My parents always wanted the best for me, but I heard that not all parents were not like that in Gotham.
Right now, my mom was giving me a talk before I headed to Gotham Academy. I was insecure, so she was trying to reassure me that this was the best school for me to be at.I sighed and said,"Mom, I will be all right. If I get lost or something, then hopefully Batman will come and save me, right?"
Mom gently grabbed my arm and softly said,"Baby, I know it is hard moving from one place to another, but this is gonna end up helping you. You will meet new friends that are different than the friends you had before, but that is okay. You are going to be fine. Your father and I have faith in you that this will be your best year. We have faith that you will be able to smile more this year."
I nodded and hugged Mom.
Mom hugged back and said,"I love you, baby. Have a good day."
I pulled away from the hug and kissed her cheek saying,"I love you, too, Mom."
Mom smiled and led me out to my car. I gave her one last wave, before I started my decent drive towards Gotham Academy.
As I drove to school, I turned on the radio and Jennifer Hudson was on. I smiled and sung along, before I made it to my school in no time. I took a deep breath and looked in the mirror. My insecurity issue started long ago, but because of my stupid ex-boyfriend who did nothing but tear me down all the time.
Since I couldn't forget everything he had said to me then, I always doubted myself and reassured myself that no one would see me like other girls.Sometimes what went through my head was: Why would someone like an African American girl like me, when they can have some beautiful blonde model? I could not help but what I saw every day. I was determined to not let this school's biggest jocks and players get to my head. I had to at least try not to let my thoughts become so negative so quickly. That took time, though.
......I stepped out of the car and realized I only had 4 minutes to get to class. My eyes widened, and I quickly ran to my advisement. I let out a sigh of relief when I made it inside the classroom. Everyone just looked at me like I was crazy, but I did not care.
After most of my classes, it was lunch time. I immediately freaked out, because I didn't know anyone. I got my lunch and sat down by myself. I saw a red-haired girl walking towards my table, and I hoped she was not here to threaten me.I prepared for an insult, but it never came.
She chuckled saying,"Are you new here? I am Barbara Gordon. You are?"
I smiled and shook her hand saying,"I am Y/N L/N. Sorry, I just have not had the best luck with people. Thanks for introducing yourself to me and not insulting me first."
Barbara nodded and sat down beside me.
I asked Barbara, clearly confused,"Wait, don't you have other friends waiting on you?"
She nodded and said,"Yeah, but I can always talk to them later. I have some other friends that would love to meet you, though. Here they come."
4 boys sat down at my table. I would say they looked like brothers, besides from some key facial features. The tallest one had light blue eyes, and his presence seemed very comforting. The middle one's eyes were emerald, and he was very observant, but cute in his own way. The next one also had blue eyes and seemed to be gazing at me. The shortest one looked done with everything, but he sent me a decent look.
I immediately blushed, while the youngest one smirked saying,"Drake, really? She does not want you. Who would?"
I laughed, which made him smile.
Barb smiled saying,"This is Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne. They all live with Bruce Wayne. I am sure you have heard of him?"
I nodded and smiled saying,"Yeah, I met him a few weeks ago. He is very nice but a bit protective. I wonder why that is."
Everyone just looked to the side, and I sent them a confused look.
Barb waved it off, before Jason said,"Y/N, you look upset. Is everything okay?"
Dick smirked saying,"Jason cares about you? Jase, I didn't know you cared about anything."
Jason rolled his eyes, but he patiently waited for my answer.
I sighed and said,"You guys promise not to tell anyone?"
They all nodded, before I looked down saying,"I guess I am just afraid that no one will want to talk to me. I mean, I am new here, and I do not know where everything is. I just feel like no one will want to hang out with me, because I am African American and not like all the other girls here."
They all gave me sympathetic looks, before I just looked back down.
Tim lifted my chin and stroked my cheek saying,"Y/N, there's no reason for you to be afraid. You can trust all of us at this table. We were all new here at one point, but we'll be here to help you. People here tend to have their own groups, but it's good that you're different. This place could use different. African America women are beautiful. You're beautiful. I wouldn't mind being your friend."
Tim intertwined his fingers with mine, while saying,"Or more than friends."
My eyes widened. Jason, Dick, and Damian chuckled, while Barb just sent me a wink.
I turned to Tim and said,"Whoa, Tim. Let's slow it down a little bit, okay? Though, Tim Drake, I think you are very cute."
Tim blushed madly and I chuckled, before I felt like I was going to be just fine. Hopefully, they wouldn't get tired of me and I could work on my insecurity issue as time went on.
