(MARCELINE'S POV)

There's still no progress, not even slight. Bonnie and Gumball are having a hard time. I guess they're no match for Helena's powers.

I returned home. It was about 10 pm. A tear fell from my eye as I held the cold door knob. My hope was slowly slipping away. But I'll hold on, Marshall, I'll hold on. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I won't just let that slip away. I'll hold on as long as I breathe.

I twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open to find my dad waiting for me. It was then I realized that I forgot that I locked the door before leaving. I was surprised he stepped foot in my house.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him coldly. "Marceline. I'm here to talk to you," he replied. I just looked at him, waiting for him to proceed and he stood up and walked towards me.

He squeezed my shoulders, looked down and sighed heavily. Probably bad news. There was a moment of silence before he spoke.

"Marceline, I can't do it."

"Why? Is it because of your business, dad?" I scoffed as I called him. "No Marcy, it's not because of the business," he said remorsefully. "The contract is off because she closed the portals permanently and that's it. And that' the problem. I can't open it again, only she can," he continued.

I only looked down. I was filled with layers and layers of emotions. Frustration. Anger. Melancholy. I can't even fathom the feeling. I wanted to shout on top of my lungs until Marshall could hear me. I wanted to break down the house and throw everything away. I wanted to set everything on fire, to the point that I just broke down and cried.

Why does the universe have to be so hard on us? Why the hell is this happening? Why us?

I covered my eyes with my palms as I dropped to the floor from my knees getting weak. Dad seeing me like this isn't even my concern right now. I just couldn't take it anymore.

I felt Dad's arm on my shoulder. I refused to look at him, not now. I heard him sigh. "Marcy, I'm sorry." He then hugged me, to which I didn't respond. "I just can't. And I know having me around won't help. I'm going to give you time for yourself."

With that, he opened a portal to the Nightosphere. He entered and then it disappeared, leaving me alone to my thoughts.

It has been more than a year already. Today was Finn's 17th birthday and he's not coping up very well without Fionna. He was always the positive thinker, but now he can barely hide the pain he's feeling. Jake even said that he cries a lot.

We decided to cheer Finn up. I can wait a thousand years to see Marshall, but Finn can't live long enough to wait. There was a little progress with the portal. Bonnie did an excellent job. She worked day and night.

I would give everything to finally get to see you, Marshall.

"Finn cakes are ready!" Jake yelled as he took the cakes out of the oven with mittens on his hands and I snapped back to reality. Jake transferred the cakes into a large platter, and then placed it on the table. Bonnie came in with a platter of her famous tarts, and Gumball with his cream puffs.

Tree Trunks came in with a steaming apple pie. Peppermint Butler brought spaghetti and a chocolate cake with several candles. Everything was placed on the table. A banner hangs on top with the words 'Happy Birthday Finn!'

I just sat on the table, contemplating the whole situation. Jake came in again, bringing a plate of bacon pancakes stacked on top of each other. This was all Jake's idea. We were trying to cheer Finn up. At least he can cheer up. I'm hopeless.

Finn came in, blindfolded. BMO sat on his shoulder. We immediately gathered. "We're here! You can look now!" BMO giggled. Finn then took off the piece of white cloth from his face. "Surprise!" We all shouted with glee. Finn's face brightened as he beamed, looking through the surroundings.

"Thank you guys!" He yelled happily as he ran to us and extended his arms in an attempt to enclose us all in his embrace. "You're the best."

"Don't get too mushy now," I said with a chuckle. Bonnie grabbed Finn by the shoulders and dragged him to the table where the cake was placed. "Make a wish!" She said excitedly.

Finn closed his eyes. He thought solemnly, sincerity drawn on his face. After a few seconds, he smiled, opened his eyes, then blew his candles. "Happy birthday, Finn!" Everybody squealed. Jake turned on the music and the party started.

Finn was busy entertaining everybody. I just sat on their rooftop, bringing with me an apple. I sucked the red out of it. I looked at the moon, shining bright.

"Hey Marcy!" I turned to see it was Finn, smiling at me, holding on to the ladder. "Hey Finn," I greeted back. "How come you're out here?" He asked.

"Just getting some fresh air."

"Oh," he said casually as he sat down beside me. "Do you think it's possible that we're looking at the same moon as them?" He asked. "I don't know Finn. But maybe," I replied. "How are you doing?" I asked him, speaking of them.

"I miss her, Marcy," Finn said as he looked down, his face turning red. "But I'm willing to wait. But it hurts," he added. "I know, Finn," I said remorsely. "Life's tough," he complained. "Shouldn't you be tougher?" Now the tables turned. He's now being negative and I am positive. But I was just doing my best to cheer him up.

He smiled at me and then he hugged me. I hugged him back as I rubbed his back. "It's all going to be okay, right?" He asked. "Everything will be okay," I whispered to him.

"C'mon, let's go back," I said as I pulled away. He only smiled and stood up, and we made our way back to their living room.
