(MARCELINE'S POV)

I randomly fiddled the strings of my guitar, endlessly creating random sounds as I laid in bed. I heard the door from the kitchen open and within a matter of seconds, smiling Ash appeared in the door.

"Came home early as I promised. You ready?" He beamed.

"Yeah," I responded with a smile as I sat up and left the guitar lying on the bed.

"Oh, I'll need you to wear this," Ash directed as he showed me a black cloak - not the old rag he's been keeping around the house, this one's new.

"I bought it for you. The sun's still up, you'll need to cover up," he continued. I just smiled at him and accepted it without hesitation. He's doing this for me. He helped me put it on.

I turned around to face him. He smiled and kissed my cheek. "Let's go," he smiled.

We exited the house. I looked at my surroundings keenly. I looked up to see the bright sky, causing my face to get exposed. My skin started to burn. I hissed and Ash immediately pulled my hood down to cover my entire face.

"Silly, don't be so stupid!" Ash exclaimed as he let go of the hood. "Don't be so reckless! You know sunlight could burn you," he reprimanded.

"Okay Ash, okay!" I countered, "geez, it wasn't even that serious. No need to get all fumed."

I looked down so the cloak covered my face with its shadow. Ash won't tell me where we're going, but I'm not complaining. I can't recognize the place anyway.

Ash did what I want. He took me outside. But why am I not as excited as I was when I asked him to do so? Why do I feel like I'd rather talk to Marshall?

It's nothing, probably just nothing. You're too obsessed with the queries Erin, don't rush. Give yourself time to enjoy and relax.

Ash opened the door to the front seat of the truck and I sat inside. He closed the door, walked to the other side and sat at the driver's seat. The engine roared as he started it. The rest of the ride was silent.

I decided to go to the forest today. It's 11:50 pm. I just need a breather.

Ash was already asleep. We arrived home before it was even totally dark. I jumped out the window and flew to the forest... where I saw Marshall.

"Marshall?"

"Marceline?"

I floated closer to him while he just stood there, leaning his back against that tree.

"I didn't expect to see you here. I told you I couldn't come here today."

"And yet here you are," he smirked. "Missed me too soon?" He grinned.

"Shut up, Lee," I hissed. As if it was already a routine - or maybe it actually already is - I sat down below the tree and he sat beside me.

"So what were you up to today?" He asked, tilting his head.

"Josh took me to a drive-in theater," I answered briefly. He looked down, and back at me. "And how was it?" He asked.

"It was okay, I guess."

He eyes me, looking unconvinced, as if waiting for me to finish. So I did. "Kinda boring actually."

"Pft, you should've just ditched him."

"I can't just do that, you know," I scoffed. He's my husband.

And his words were still fresh in mind.
