(MARSHALL'S POV)
"So how are you holding up?" Fionna asked, an expression of sorrow etched om her face. She was sitting beside me, and Flames on my other side, but he was talking to someone else. We were just outside Bonnie's cabin. A sight like this is somehow traumatizing. The peaceful sound of Lake Butterscotch could just be heard from here.
They had prepared a wooden table big enough for all of us, three seats on two sides and one on each of the other sides. Finn sat in front of Fionna, Phoebe in front of Flames, and Gumball in front of me. Bonnie was seated between Flames and Phoebe, and on the other side was Scwhabl. I brought Schwabl along. At least I won't see any empty seats.
"Not so good," I muttered as I ran my fingers on the rough red and white checkered cloth in the center of the table where the food was placed, an apple in my other hand. I'm not sure if I should tell her about Ashley. I don't think it's a good idea to let anyone know.
Fionna sighed. "I'm so sorry Marshall."
"It's okay," I said softly despite the chatters of everyone else filling the air. I just tossed the apple up and down. "C'mon, you haven't eaten yet," Fionna said, worry lacing her words.
"I'm not hungry," I answered simply.
Fionna gave me an unconvinced look. I shifted my gaze to Schwabl who sat behaved, just so I could avoid looking at Fionna.
I sighed. "I just... It's so hard for me. I keep thinking that if I just hadn't planned the whole thing, she would still be here."
"Marshall," Gumball, who was surprisingly not mad at me, called, "for the umpteenth time, it's not your fault. Come on. You can't keep punishing yourself like that. We will always understand, but we can't bear seeing you like this," he explained. He was so bold at admitting that, I felt my cheeks heat up. This is awkward for me. But I kept looking down.
"Wanna drink?" Flames suddenly asked out of nowhere as he slid a glass in front of me. Its smell penetrated my nose. Liquor. "No, no thanks," I countered as I pushed the glass back to him. "Oh, so you're a changed man now?" Flames chirped as his brow shot up.
"Bad things just happen when I'm drunk... bad things," I muttered a brief explanation. "Alright," he smirked and drank.
Oh great, Schwabl ran off. I ignored his absence. He'll be back. I brought the apple to my mouth and sucked its color.
So we just talked there the entire night. We ate and talked about our lives, some catching up. We talked about Marceline, how we miss her. And it just triggered.
"I really miss Marcy," Bonnie lamented.
You idiots, this isn't helping. I felt tears start to swell up. That's when Flames successfully convinced me to drink again. If I gotta cry, I gotta do it drunk. Besides, Ashley isn't here, my friends are here, so nothing could go wrong. But this will be the last time.
I drank and drank and drank until my vision started to become blurry. I'll be drunk until my vampire decides to puke out the liquor. Then, I'll be sober. But for now...
"Seriously, dweebs, what did I do to deserve you?"
(MARCELINE/"ERIN'S" POV)
"Ash, thank you so much!" I exclaimed excitedly as I hugged him. "You've been thanking me since last night, babe. And for the thousandth time, you're welcome," he beamed. He bought me a guitar! It was an acoustic one. It had a crimson burst color and a black pick guard.
I was just really happy as I found out something about myself. I was actually good with the guitar. I used to play guitar, and I'm glad my skill didn't leave along with my memories.
