One Last Photograph

One year later...

Writing music was always an escape for Mitch. Regardless of what was going on in his life, he'd always have his own unique way to console himself. He could get his feelings out in song.

The lyrics were his words that he couldn't speak, but were easiest sung than said. Singing was like a protection spell: he was invincible when he sang. He could speak the most difficult of words, just by speaking them through song. It brought forth a whole new level of confidence. Maybe that's why he started singing... it helped him blossom.

The music itself was the internal story... the story that seldom surfaced. This revealed the emotions behind the lyrics that were always hidden and too shy to come out. The chord progression was the soul bleeding itself out on paper, and throughout the musical instruments that could only convey the deepest feelings.

Mitch didn't make his albums for others, though they would consume it and feed off of his own emotions and take his music for their own life stories. He made his albums so he could document his years... much like a photograph, music was his way to relive memories. He could listen to a song and remember every incentive behind it. How he overcame his darkest fears. How he grew from the separation from his parents. How he made it by when Scott left him. He expressed his true feelings in the deepest way possible... something that a photograph can't capture. Music allows mental photographs, mental paintings. And that was enough for him.

He begun playing the chords in his heart on the piano, his fingers dancing along the keys like it was his native language. He was in the process of creating his first full length album. Within the pat  year of his EP being released his music grew popularity. His record label convinced him to go ahead and make an album, and they were very excited when he came forth with twelve songs, ready to be produced and mixed. They were all raw acoustic edits, but they were perfect. Nothing needed to be changed, except for adding real instruments as opposed to a keyboard. But it spoke every thought that Mitch had within the year since his EP, and since the biggest change happened in his life.

He ended up migrating to the title song of his new album, Lest I Forget.

Days go by and you're always on my mind / But you're never there when I wake /  You chose to go a different path, a new life / My heart gets heavier every breath I take / They say it'll get easier in time / I need a new heart, because you've stolen mine / Lest I forget you, tomorrow won't come

Mitch trailed off, staring at the piano and feeling extremely nostalgic. It was a difficult part of his life to remember, but a wonderful one. He'd hold that part of his life with him forever, and he couldn't help but put it in song.

Clapping broke the silence before he could pick up and play again, and he immediately turned around and a smile spread across his face. "How long have you been there?"

"Long enough to almost melt to the floor." The blonde walked over to the piano bench and Mitch scooted to one side, allowing Scott to sit down next to him. "I can't make music when I hear your beautiful voice across the hall. You're too damn distracting." He kissed him on the lips and wrapped his arms around Mitch, the tenor leaning his body in towards Scott. One year later and he couldn't get enough of Scott. It had only taken him one week to realize that Mitch was the one for him, but he prolonged saying the 'L' word for a few months.

"I knew that I was in love with you the moment I saw your secret little video. How could I not have fallen in love with someone who gave their entire life for someone who couldn't remember who they were the next day? Your passion drove me wild, and in return I grew passionate towards you. But, I don't know. I always knew since that day at the restaurant that we were meant to be. I just wanted to make it last longer."
