I entered the room to be met by the pressing glares of my parents and their judgmental friends. Apparently Luke's parents were over tonight. They had never been my favorite guests. Luke was here as well, he was sat next to Ashton, who was apparently doing his best to ignore me, as he focused his gaze on the food occupying his plate.

"It was nice of you to finally join us," my mom said with a clipped tone. She gave me a stern look, signaling that we would talk about this later.

She had surely heard Ashton and I yelling, and was embarrassed at our behavior in front of her uptight friends.

I smiled weakly and took a seat between my mother and Luke's mother, Liz.

"Nice to see you, Evie," Liz smiled at me. "How have you been,"

"I've been good," I replied bluntly, turning my attention from her fake smile to the abundance of food on my plate.

Liz and Andy, Luke's parents, had never done anything particularly terrible to gain my hatred for them. They had always just simply irked me. Maybe it was they way they treat Luke as if he is irrelevant, or maybe it was their snooty tendencies. Ever since I had met them, something had just rubbed me the wrong way.

Although, to my disappointment, Liz was my mother's best friend, and Andy my dad's. Therefore they lingered around our house often. They were always either over here, or we were at there house.

To say I feel bad for Luke for having to live with them would be an understatement. And to say that Luke hated them, would also be an understatement.

The tension had swept over the entire room the moment I had made my entrance. Surely everyone had heard the yelling from upstairs, and noticed mine and Ashton's disgruntled moods.

I slowly began to eat along with everyone else in complete silence. The only noise heard was the soft clinking of utensils against the glass of my mom's very best dinnerware.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could practically see my mom twitching with stress. I knew how she was, she wanted things to be perfect for guests, especially for people with standards as high as Luke's parents. She was currently wracking her brain for a conversation starter.

I on the other hand didn't mind the eerie quietness, it was better than starting yet another fight with Ashton in the middle of dinner.

And to be truthful, if we all started to talk, there was a high chance of something of that sort happening. Especially since we're dealing with Ashton. He's never been one to keep his temper in check.

"The food is wonderful, Mrs. Irwin," Luke said suddenly, smiling a bit.

"Thank you, Luke," my mom replied, I could see the pride shining in her eyes at the simple compliment.

We continued on in silence for a few more minutes, until Luke broke the silence once again.

"Evie could I um, could I talk to you for a second?" He asked, not daring to make eye contact with me. He looked rather nervous as Ashton's blazing eyes burned into the side of his head.

I noticed the way Ashton's jaw clenched, and he tightened his grip on his fork. He was obviously angry at Luke's proposal of conversation with me, and I was feeling more and more tempted to remove the fork from his iron grip by the second. He was making me fear for Luke's safety as his hands began to tremble, still clutching tightly to the potentially harmful utensil.

"Luke, how about you let her finish her food first," Liz proposed.

"No it's quite alright," I countered. "I'm not very hungry anyways," I began to stand up, as did Luke.

I felt all eyes on us as we both left the table. Ashton looked as if he was ready to lunge out of his chair at any moment.

"We can just talk in the living room," I told Luke as we began to walk into the more private space, hopefully they wouldn't be able to hear us in here.

Luke took a seat on the plush sofa, patting the spot next to him. I hesitantly sat next to him, not liking the tension between us.

I had no idea what he was wanting to talk about, but by the way he was acting, it may be something serious.

"Don't look so nervous," he spoke, a smile overcoming his features.

I breathed out a sigh of relief, as I smiled along with him.

"Oh thank god, I was getting very tired of the scornful atmosphere," I said with a light laugh. "I thought you were about to drop some huge bomb on me,"

He giggled, placing an arm around my shoulder. "No, I mostly just wanted to escape that horrible dining room," he admitted. "And plus, the food actually wasn't very good," he lowered his voice to a whisper.

I laughed again, nodding my head in agreement. Neither of my parents were very good cooks.

"There was something I wanted to ask you about too though," he continued, causing me to feel a bit nervous once again. "Nothing bad though," he clarified, sensing my worry.

"Okay, you can ask me," I said with a smile, awaiting his proposition.

"Okay, to start off, what the hell happened between you and Ashton?"

I averted my gaze to the floor, remembering Ashton and I's petty quarrel. I couldn't believe the way he was speaking to Michael when he didn't even know him. I understand he's protective, but that doesn't give him the right to be flat out rude.

"We got in a fight, that's all," I muttered.

Luke raised his eyebrows, clearly not believing me.

"Okay maybe it was more than a little fight," I admitted. "I'm not too worried about it, Ashton's just being Ashton,"

"Well I heard a lot of yelling up there," Luke said, a hint of suspicion in his tone. "I couldn't make out a lot of what was said, but what I could comprehend didn't sound like it was directed towards you,"

I scratched my arm awkwardly, I wasn't sure if I wanted to tell Luke about Michael quite yet, but I guess now was as good a time as ever.

"Yeah, he was yelling at my friend," I said, not mentioning that Michael was indeed a male, and the fact that he was a friend I had relations with over the Internet, instead of real life.

"Hmm, so someone else is here?" Luke questioned, seeing right through me.

I smiled a little, knowing he had caught me. "No, I was skyping them, they live in Australia," I admitted.

"Oh, 'they' live in Australia, do they?" Luke said with a devilish grin. "Is there any chance that this mystery friend is a guy?"

I felt a blush creep onto my cheeks, and nodded. This caused Luke's smirk to widen.

"I caught you, Evie Grace," he said with a laugh. "Do you have yourself an Internet boyfriend?"

"No!" I said quickly, suddenly getting more defensive. "We're just friends, nothing more,"

He just continued to stare at me, smirking.

"Oh stop it, Luke," I seethed. "There's nothing going on between us, he lives in Australia, on the opposite side of the world! In a different hemisphere! We could never be more than friends anyways,"

"You say that now," Luke began. "But I bet you in three months, things between you two will be much different than what you have in mind. I heard you defending him. There's definitely something there already. In no time you guys will be hopelessly in love,"

"Oh no they fùcking won't," I heard a deep voice growl from the doorway.

Ashton.

This chapter probably sucks but hey, I tried. I know things are probably getting boring, so don't worry Mikey and Evie will meet soon. Things will pick up in the next few chapters, I promise. Anyways, if you're reading this, bless ur soul.
