Chapter One: Toby is my boyfriend. You have a problem with that?

"Congratulations graduating class of 2015!"

Cheers erupted around me. Girls screamed, boys whooped, graduation caps went flying through the air. My best friend Prim threw her arms around me, squealing in my ear.

"We did it Spencer!" She cheered, jumping up and down. "We did it!" I laughed at her, wrapping my arms around her shoulders in a hug.

"We did didn't we." I said. She beamed at me, her face spread in a huge smile. And then her eyes filled with tears. I frowned, putting my hand on her shoulder.

"Prim?" I asked.

"It's over." She said, so quietly I almost didn't hear her over the screaming and laughing of the other students. Then she started crying, pressing her hands to her face. I let out a sigh, wrapping my arms around my friend.

"Come on Prim." I said, rubbing her back as she pressed her face into my shoulder. "Let's go find your parents."

It took us a while to find them. Having to guide Prim through the sea of people because she still had her hands pressed to her face to hide her sobs was something I was expert at. Having known Prim since we were both ten, I knew exsactly how to deal with her emotional state. When I finally spotted her parents outside the school gates waiting for us, I made a direct bee line for them, promising Prim ice cream and a Disney movie marathon as soon as we got back to her place.

"Oh Prim." Said Mrs Collins when she spotted us. She came hurrying over, taking her sobbing daughter from my arms.

"Thanks Spence." She said, smiling at me over the top of Prims head. I smiled back.

"You're welcome Mrs Collins."

"Have you cleaned out your locker yet?" Mrs Collins asked as she handed Prim over to her father who began to walk her towards the car. I shook my head, rocking back on my heels.

"Not yet Mrs Collins. I'll do it now."

"Do you need to be picked up?" She asked, pulling her sunglasses out of her handbag. "Because I can send Brad to pick you up." I shook my head, smiling at her.

"No thank you. I've got somewhere I've got to go when I'm finished so I'll just catch the bus home." Mrs Collins fixed me with her dark gaze, raising her eyebrows.

"You sure? I know Brad wouldn't mind."

"I'm sure Mrs Collins. I'll be fine." She still looked unconvinced, but after a couple of seconds of studying my face, she gave in.

"Very well then." She said. She reached out her arms and pulled me in for a hug. I stiffened in her hold. I still wasn't used to behind hugged, but I think she pretended not to notice. "Be home by six." She said when she let me go. I nodded my head at her, smiling as warmly as I could.

"I will Mrs Collins. Tell Prim I'll pick up some ice cream on the way home."

After cleaning out my locker and saying goodbye to the few people still drifting around in the hallways, I slowly made my way down to the bus stop, my shoulder bag weighed down by the weight of my books. I didn't have to wait long. Soon, I was sitting at the back of a local bus as it bumped and swayed it's way along the road. I tapped my fingers against my jean clad leg. I knew where I was going. I just hoped I could bring myself to get there.
